Seven Habits of Highly Effective New School Years
I love this idea from the Trinity Prep School Blog. I don't think I really have anything new to add, but I thought it would be fun to join in anyway since we are preparing to start second grade. If you decide to do it on your blog too, let me know so I can read it...and don't forget to leave a comment at the Trinity Prep School Blog so they can read it too!
Seven Habits of Highly Effective New School Years
1. Prayer: Cover everything in prayer not just before each day of school begins, but before you you even begin planning your school year. Let the Lord be the head of your homeschool and follow the plans He has for you and your children. Pray about the school year, what you will be teaching, what they will be learning. Pray for your children and your husband.
2. Plan: Most people don't get into their cars without having some idea of where they are going. You may not have it detailed down to the second but you should have a good idea of what you want your children to learn and how to achieve it... be it daily, weekly, monthly...yearly.
3. Evaluate: Is it working? Take time periodically to evaluate your homeschooling and don't be afraid to make changes as needed. Be flexible. Don't feel like you have to do every page and every problem. If you feel your child knows something well, it's ok to skip problems, pages or even chapters and move on to something else.
4. Don't Compare: Don't compare you teaching or your children's learning to other homeschoolers...or public schoolers. Every child learns differently and at their own pace no matter how far ahead they are. It's not how much they learn, but how well they learn. Remember that every homeschool parent is different too.
5. Support: Take the time to find other homeschoolers and even a local homeschool group and get involved. This is more for you than for than the children.
6. Have Fun: Children learn better when they are having fun. And enjoy the time you spend with your children. Hug them. Love them. Treasure the moments and make memories because before you know it they'll be graduating.
7. Praise and Thanksgiving: Praising the Lord and thanking him for the opportunity to homeschool the little blessings he has giving to you, that you may return them to Him as sharp, straight arrows ready to accomplish the plans He has for them.
Thank you for your contribution
