Preparing For Second Grade

Boo and I went to the ABeka hotel meeting on Monday and the curriculum for second grade is ordered. I like that it is that easy! Most everything we are using for homeschooling comes from ABeka. It's working well for Boo so far, and as long as it's working...I'm sticking with it. This is the first year that I didn't purchase the complete kits. I didn't buy the test books, the seatwork books etc. Will I have buyers remorse? We'll see.
For Bible, we are simply using the Bible itself and the Bible Truths workbook from Bob Jones. We used it for first grade and I really liked it. ABeka's Bible curriculum is way too much $$$ for us. This workbook is only $15. There is a teachers guide that you can get along with some other stuff, but so far just using the workbook is going well.
We will be starting Elementary Spanish this year also. I went with Switched On Schoolhouse. It's basically the Powerglide program only it's computer based. This is the first (and only so far) computer based curriculum we'll be using. Being in the computer industry as a software trainer (my former life ) I don't feel it is necessary for Boo to spend a lot of time on the computer. There will be plenty of time for that when he gets older. Anyway, I hope that Spanish goes well. I would like him to learn another language as well, maybe French. Hubby thinks Japanese would be a good pick. lol We'll see.
All that is left is for me to review the curriculum and lay out our school calendar. School starts September 4th (if the curriculum arrives in time! )

I was homeschooled and we used Abeka. I used to love getting the new books. They were always so pretty and had that new book smell...
