Breastfeeding Pic Offensive

Posted on Friday 4 August 2006 at 1:35 PM in A Little Bit Of Everything - Post Comment

It has always amazed me that breastfeeding is so controvercial.  I just read another article about it this morning here:  http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20060804/od_afp/afplifestyleussocialbreastfeeding.  The picture that Babytalk magazine chose to put on the cover has offended some.  I personally believe that they could have put a more modest picture on the cover.  But what I think is funny is that people will jump at complaining about this, but we see women on TV and in magazines wearing things that barely cover their breasts and we hardly ever complain about those being offensive.  Nobody complains about stars revealing all in movies either.  Why not?  I honestly find those offensive instead of that breastfeeding picture.   Why aren't we more embarrassed and offended, and who is complaining about those?  I think if more of us said something when media offends, we just might see some change.

Oh, for goodness sakes.......

I looked at the picture to see just how offensive it was and I thought it looked sweet. Of course, I'm biased. I'm a very pro-breastfeeding mom. My second child was born 13 weeks early with health problems and I was especially glad to have chosen a doctor who encourages nursing. At five, my son is doing well and I thank the Lord and give credit also to his receiving breast milk in his diet for over 2 years. Blessings to you...........................Denise (prairiemom)

Maybe I should have titled this different.

Maybe I wasn't very clear. I'm very pro breastfeeding. I nursed my son until he was almost three...when he decided on his own to stop. Breastfeeding is a wonderful blessing and more moms should be encouraged to do it. I just thought it funny that people were complaing about this and not other things that are more offensive.

I just read this article about an hour ago and it got me thinking too. I also thought that a more modest picture would have been better but not really that big of a deal. But people were so outraged about it, I don't understand it. I mean yes they maybe should have put a better picture on the front but people are going even further and saying they don't like to see people breast feeding their children. I for one breastfed my daughter till she was 1 and by no means did I do it where everyone could see me, but if I really needed to feed her in a crowded place I think I have the right to do that, modestly of course. I also agree about Hollywood and the movies. You don't see people complaining when the awards shows are featuring all these celebrities with low cut dresses and their breasts falling out and I'm sure it wouldnt be different if you saw them in real life either. Well I guess I've said enough, I'm just glad someone else saw this article and had the same thoughts.
