Yesterday I was telling a friend how free I felt. The weight of wrong choices seems to be lifted because I am making better choices for my health now. A part of me was concerned that maybe my feelings were tied to a works mentality. And then as I was sharing with my friend, I had an "Ah- ha!" moment. The verse that brought the "Ah-ha!" momnet on for me was Romans 6:16 "Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?" As this verse came to mind I realized the reason for the joy I was experiencing , the lightess, and the good feelings are all part of what Christ wants us to experience daily. But when we submit to sin, though it does not change his love for us, it causes us to feel burdened down, weighted. If we stay in sin long we can very easily feel the bondage of it's ownership over us. This is where I was before my friends prayed for me that faithful night (see the 2nd blog entry "Release from Salvery"). I WAS ..... as I described for my friends through my tears.."HEAVY" with "SHAME". I knew that I was bound by sin in the area of my eating and that was a horrible feeling. I knew that I was in BIG trouble because though I knew it was wrong (AND unhealthy!!) to eat the way I was, I felt powerless to change. A slave! But today I am free!!!! Yes FREE! I have not lost a ton of weight. But I know that I am free. It started with crying out to the Lord for strength for a long time and seeminly getting no-here. And then, I just had that experience where I really grasped His love for me and that is what freed me. Even before I began to make changes, it began with knowing He loved me. That love finally gave me the strength I had not had to what was right/best. Now, if I do not submit myself again to sin then I will never be a slave to that sin again. I aim to never let that yoke of slavery to food be put on me again. Galatians 5:1 "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." Leave a Comment { Last Page } { Page 38 of 45 } { Next Page } |
