Lamb Selection Day
Today I want to share with you yesterday's message at church because it was so powerful. But before I launch into that I will share the words a friend encouraged me with after reading my blog. She commented "I know you know this already, but just a reminder-try not to make it about losing weight, but about obedience to the One who created you, who knows what your body needs and what weight will be best for you. Don't let the scale be your 'god'." She is so right. And I guess that is what I was trying to say in yesterday's blog. I know I struggle with years of depending on the scale to tell me if I am succeeding. And although it is somewhat of a tool to gage the effects of one's lifestyle, it is not to be my God. The Lord is teaching me to look to Him to see if I am doing it right, NOT the scale. Sometimes the scale says we have gained and if we are not careful we will let this sabotage us...... when in fact the increase could represent muscle mass gain, which marvelous since muscle raises our metabolism and burns more fat and gives us a healthier lean body. So thanks for the wonderful advice friend and keep me in your prayers that I will let this truth sink in. By the way I have decided to weigh only once a week. I know better than to weigh daily anyway. Females especially fluctuate a lot in their weight during the month. I probably had several reasons why mine went up the other day (all very normal/positive).
Now Yesterday was Palm Sunday. What a wonderful day! The pastor's sermon really emphasized the love of God toward us. See Palm Sunday was "lamb Selection Day" for the Israelites ( Exodus 12). It began with the last plague put on the Egyptians. the Israelites were to select a perfect lamb and then sacrifice it. By putting the blood of a perfect lamb on their doorpost the death Angel would know to passover their homes and not take the life of their firstborn. The Egyptians did not do this and there was much mourning in their homes. Ever since, the Israelites have offered a lamb as a sacrifice for their sins every year at the Passover celebration. The selection of the lamb is begun 1 week prior to Passover.
Now let us look at Jesus. He did not try to make himself famous, though word of Him quickly spread. He did not try to attract the attention of the church leaders though often he did. Many times He walked out of the middle of the crowd and disappeared because it was not yet his time.
But on the day we now call Palm Sunday or what used to be known as Lamb Selection Day (LSD), He purposely entered into town. He had already made plans for a colt to be borrowed that He would ride into town. Look at the significance of that. If a king rode into town on a colt/donkey then that signified he was entering on terms of Peace. If he was riding in as a conquering King he would ride a stallion instead. Jesus was signifying that he was coming in Peace or AS Peace. Remember what the angels said when he was born. Luke 2:14 "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. "
He knew exactly what he was doing the day He rode that donkey into town. He was announcing to us. "I LOVE you. I am the perfect lamb that will forever take away your sins. I know what is going to happen by this time next week. I am choosing to do this because it is time (predestined) to do my Father's will. I want to do this for you because I love you so much." Zechariah propehsized about this day in Zechariah9:9. So you see Palm Sunday was :
1) His time
2) His choice
3) A strong demonstration of His Love
4)fulfillment of the Father's plan for our salvation
If you have grown up thinking that our Lord was captured and horribly beaten and then hung on a cross, then you have part of the story. He was beaten and hung on a cross. But he was not captured. He determinedly went to the cross. The leaders of the church wanted to be rid of him but hey knew that Passover was not the appropriate time to arrest him. They would have put it off until after the celebration. But when Jesus entered the town on that triumphant march on a donkey, they felt forced/angered into doing something anyway. This was all part of Jesus plan. He knew this was the day, LSD was the day to enter. He knew Passover was the day to die for our sins once for all.
Perhaps you are ashamed of your failures. Or your life is painful and you wonder if he really loves you because of all the yuck in your life. Maybe you are angry at someone and you can not let go of the hurt. See Him on that donkey today riding into Jerusalem. His love is grand. His desire for you is strong. He loves you. And that love can transform. It cast out all fear.
Well this is from my notes and I hope I got all the information correct. It blessed my heart and I hope it blesses yours.
Motivated one more day by HIS love, Angie

This is an eye-opener, and I really appreciate your sharing it with the www, and that I happened to see it!
I was raised by a Baptist preacher and yet never realized the significance of Lamb Selection Day. It sure shouldn't surprise me - I have learned that EVERYTHING in the Bible has significance- on many levels... truly living words.
Thanks,
Illoura
