today I am thankful for my little home. I can remember when I was in school, I had a classmate who was very large. She went to school with me for as far back as I can remember and she was always large. She was very nice but not to many of the other children would play with her. But, there was something about her. She sort of stood above us all. She was like a grown-up even though she was our age. I can remember sitting in the school yard talking to her and I can remember seeing her at various places in town and saying hello. My sister worked with her for a bit as we grew up. We would see here and her mother, who was also very large, walking through town. Somehow she was different and I never ever heard anyone make fun of her. In our yearbook she put a quote from a poem. I can't remember now who wrote the poem or how the rest of the poem goes. "Let me live in my house by the side of the road and be a friend to man." So, my thankful Thursday today is in honor of Dencie who taught me at a very early age what dignity looks like. And, also my little home by the side of the road and the family that God has blessed me with. |
FOR TODAY 06 October, 2008
Outside My Window...It's still quite dark out there as it is very early morning here in Hipville. I woke to the smell of skunk. pew!
I am thinking...about how much I love this time of day for getting things done. I have a load of laundry yet to fold. It has Mr. Mac's work clothes in it so I will have to do it before he is ready to leave this morning.
I am thankful for...A lovely three day weekend. I feel well rested and ready to return to work.
From the kitchen...Just coffee so far. However, there is a loaf of apple zucchini bread that I pulled from the freezer. And, tonight there will be chicken and dumplings for dinner.
I am wearing...I have work clothes on this morning. A pair of black yoga pants and a work t-shirt. I am also wearing a pretty green fleece and a pair of good thick socks.. It's getting a bit chilly in the mornings here but it is still warming up quite nicely by mid morning.
I am creating...a walk with Christ.
I am going...To get my chores done with routine and discipline this week. I've been slacking a bit and it's been throwing everything off. Including my mood.
I am reading...my bible and my devotional books.
I am hoping...to be able to visit NYC this weekend. I have to see if I can get someone to cover me at work on Friday.
I am hearing...The news is on. The coast guard has been getting prank calls...who on earth would do such a thing? And, it is going to be down in the 50's tonight. BRRR.
Around the house...I've been pretty good about keeping up this weekend so things don't look to bad. I got the cutest little jack-o-lantern at Walmart and it's lit up on my buffett.
One of my favorite things...the simple walks I have been taking through the forests and fields lately. Just beautiful.
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: keeping up with my chores, working, walking at least 3 or 4 days. possibly a trip to NYC over the weekend.
Here is picture thought I am sharing...I'm not sure these pictures are coming out. I see them but I have comments that say they are not being seen. Here goes a good try:
this is Steve Corelle (sp) riding a bike down our street. He is helping out on a homework project for my daughter Miss B. Normally he just sort of hangs out in the hallway outside her bedroom door. |

I got a call from a friend this morning asking me if I would like to go see her 6th grade son's football game. There is nothing like watching a kid's football game on an autumn day in New England. I brought a nice heavy hand knit sweater but it turned out I didn't need it. The sun was shining the tree's were in splendid color and the breeze brought the gentle smell of the ocean. None of this helped our team win the game however. They lost 46 to 12. My friend tell's me they haven't won a game yet this season. But winning isn't what it's all about after all. Afterwards we went out to breakfast at a diner set up to look like the 1950's. It was a lovely morning. Before I left I put a pot roast in the crock pot and I can smell that now as I type. I came home and watched The Walton's Homecoming. I know it's only just October but I do love Christmas so much. I allow myself one Christmas movie every other week till Thanksgiving and then I can watch as many as I want. right now I'm going to join Mr. Mac on the couch for a bit of a nap while we watch the baseball game on TV. I will go to church this evening. |

Yesterday when my daughter Miss B. came home from school she asked if I would take her to a second hand store so she could buy some records. She has an old turn-table and likes to buy records for it. I guess they are coming back....sort of. It's one of those things that those of us old enough to have had a turn-table in the first place won't ever really understand. Anyhoo...I had to go to goodwill. I had no intention of going there. I had decided that I have so much stuff that I cannot go to goodwill anymore. I need to stop getting more stuff. It was a hard decision for me...but because I didn't want to let Miss B. down I had to go. While I was there I bought a small drinking glass with blueberries on it. It was crying out to me and it was only .99 cents. I also bought another cookbook. Recipes for a dinner party circa 1962. You should see the pictures. Those poor ladies had no idea what changes were coming their way. They were on the brink of another world! I thought I was being really good. I had only spent $2.97 including Miss B.'s record (the Carpenter's) And then, just as we were leaving I saw it. A milk glass floor lamp. It's beautiful. I've never seen anything like it before in my life. It was only $3.99. It's in my living room. Sometimes you just have to give up the no more stuff rule because certain things are more than just stuff. Here are some pictures. I tried to find something like it on line but I couldn't find anything anywhere near. It is a floor lamp that stands about 4 feet tall. the bottom picture is when the light is on. You can't really see it but it sort of glows. Oh my it is beautiful. Afterwards we went out to dinner together. We laughed and laughed and had the best of times together. I love that girl. |

I just found this idea while randomblogging. the link HERE was on a homestead blog but I can't remember which one. I think I'm going to try doing this today as I have the day off. I also need to pick up some bulbs. I may see if my husband will buy me some this weekend. I'd love to get some planted. We have a few tulips left and quite a bit of crocus. I would like to have some daffodils coming up in the spring. when you live in a snowy area such as new england seeing those first flowers is always such a treat. I always love the way the daffodils look growing along the old stone walls. It's one of the prettiest sights. I don't have a stone wall but they will look plenty cheery growing along my small house. I never did finish making my soup yesterday. I have the chicken stock ready to go in the fridge and I only have to de-bone it. that has never been my favorite part. Today I will get that done and we will have soup for dinner tonight. For some reason my bread didn't bake all the way in the bread maker. I'm sure I pressed the wrong button on the menu. I had a feeling I was doing something wrong but I couldn't figure out what it was. I am going to try again today. It's pretty sad when you mess up bread in a bread-maker! Today is a walking day. I plan on going through the woods with my camera. I love doing that. It's been sort of warm so I will be bringing the bug spray. We have had some triple E around and I don't want to take any chances. My husband is out hunting this morning. Yesterday he brought home 4 mallards. I think I will cook them in the crock pot next week. Perhaps I'll try a gumbo with them. He will probably bring more home today so I'd better start looking for recipes. |

This is the day the Lord has made let us rejoice and be glad in it. Actually, I haven't any idea where that even is in the bible...or even if it's in there at all. I've always liked saying it though. It kind of get's the day off to a good start. I also like sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. I plan on making good use of this rainy day. 1- 2- 3- 4-clean out the drawers, including the silverware drawer, in the kitchen 5- 6-make home made soup 7- 8- 9-vacuum and dust the whole house...it's a small house 10-wash the kitchen floor I'm also going to be finishing up any laundry while all of this is going on. I need to be at work by three so I'm going to have a busy morning.

first October, 2008! Can you believe that? Where on earth does the time go? For the past few months I have included a certain prayer in my morning prayers. I have asked the Lord to bless me by slowing down my days. Normally, I rush around here and there never really paying attention to what I am doing at the moment. Before work, I am paying attention to the time I have to leave. While I'm at work I am paying attention to the time because I want to go home, When I get out of work, I'm busy trying to figure out what I've got to do next. Or, I'm on the computer throwing my time right out the window. My prayer has been for the Lord to show me how to enjoy the days I have...not just to enjoy them but to be able to use that time to serve Him. I am amazed at what has happened. I now have the time to keep my house clean, make good dinners and breakfasts, be with my family members and my friends, go to church, do my devotions, take relaxing walks...the list goes on and on. In fact sometimes I joke around with God and tell Him that he can speed things up because I'm exhausted! This autumn I am asking God to slow my days...to teach me to be slower and pay more attention, to find the pleasure or service in what ever I'm doing...and I'm also asking Him to help me find the joy in serving others this season. By the time spring is here I want to know where I have made a difference. I want to see a difference in myself. Now, I know that the Lord is not going to change me all by Himself. I am not praying for the Lord to do it all. I'm just asking Him to guide me, to teach me, to point out the way to me, how to be a better, stronger follower. I want that not only in my service to my family but also in my service to all others. |

FOR TODAY 29 September, 2008
Outside My Window...cloudy and gray outside today. The sun was out earlier but the clouds have moved back in and rain is certainly coming soon.
I am thinking...What a nice day it is. I like the grayness of autumn.
I am thankful for...the beautiful walk I just took. I am bound and determined to walk at least twice a week. I live near the most beautiful academy and the grounds are so pretty to walk on.
From the kitchen...roast chicken is cooking. I have water on for egg noodles and there will be peas as well.
I am wearing...a long khaki skirt and a light pink long sleeve t-shirt. My feet are bare as my shoes got muddy during my walk.
I am creating...a peaceful welcoming home for my family
I am going...to take the time to enjoy this autumn season.
I am reading...just the bible
I am hoping...that my mother's husband will be healthy soon. He has just been diagnosed with prostrate cancer
I am hearing...the young couple across the street. They are getting ready for a move to North Carolina. They have their U-Haul packed and their dog ready. They leave tomorrow for the beginning of a new life...ah youth. I'm so jealous
Around the house...I have a milk glass bowl full of the prettiest little gourds. I have just brought back a pocketfull of chestnuts and beech nuts that need a home as well.
One of my favorite things...the smell of dinner cooking when I come in from a brisk walk
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: getting my bedroom cleaned up, getting out for another walk, marketing, work,
Here is picture thought I am sharing...(
this is Cape Neddick, Maine. I took this picture yesterday while out for a ride. So pretty isn't it. |

We stopped at the Maine Diner and had lunch. We both got the seafood platter...which explains why there is no dinner being made this evening...I really wanted to get a piece of home made blueberry pie but there was no way I would have been able to eat it. Blueberry pie will have to be saved for another trip. The surfers were out like crazy. At one point we must have seen at least 100 of them. Here in New England we don't get to many great surfing days so they come out in force when the surf is up. When I first saw them, I thought they were birds. We drove by Walker point but the fog was so thick we couldn't even be sure we were in the right place. There was no way we could even see the Bush's house out there. I feel so rejuvinated after a visit to the ocean. The wind wasn't nearly as bad as we thought it would be. But, of course, the big weather was further up the coast. Tomorrow is another early work day and then perhaps a walk through the woods. |

these are apples from the tree at my mothes's house. This picture was taken almost two months ago now so I'm sure they are much more red now. I plan on doing some apple picking later on this week. It's to darn rainy to go this weekend. The taste of home cupcake of the week is apple caramel. I'm going to be making that this weekend. Here is a link to the recipe cupcake of the week |
