Photo of the Regency dress and apron I made...

font-family: Georgia, verdana, arial, serif; 08:39 AM, Saturday, March 31, 2007 .. 8 comments .. Link
Some have shown interest in seeing a picture of the dress and apron I made from the Regency dress pattern by Sensibility.com.  Here it is.  I made the dress for a friend and then an apron to go over the dress.  For the apron I didn't have a pattern, just a picture taken from a movie.  The apron also had to be adjustable to allow for nursing and pregnancy.

It was pleasant to sew this dress, and I hope to make another one soon.  I'm thinking the high neckline for myself...

Wow!!! That is a very pretty dress and apron. It is so feminine looking. I would like a higher neckline too.
You do have a great talent for sewing. How is your sewing business going?

My daughter is trying to get some sewing jobs for herself. She would like to make dresses to sell. Do you have a serger machine that finishes the edges?

I enjoy sewing so much. It's been a part of me since the age of 13, although I first learned at 10 or so. I took some private classes in Montreal, Quebec and then in California around the time I met my husband. It's a great skill to have, and although it wasn't put to use as I was dreaming, I can now clothe the family and have a little business at home on the side. It's definitely a skill all girls should learn before marriage. Don't you agree?

Yes, I use a serger, except when they decide to give me some grief, which happens when baby plays with the tension knobs. I bought two used machine and since I find treading a serge rather challenging, I keep one treaded in white and one in green / blue combination. With those colors I can do most fabrics, except for reds which we don't wear.

I'm sending you a message with ideas to promote your daughter's sewing.

Yahweh bless,
Christina.
