New Home on the Range
We are very new to this whole blogging thing, but this seems like a great place to start. Our small farm - 5 acres with one horse, two chickens, two rabbits, two dogs and oh yes - 4 children has been a great place to start. We've moved down south from the Midwest and would love any advice on how to plant a garden with this awful red clay.

Glad you are here!
Clay? You can do several things ... add sand .. add manure ... all your animals can help there. Mix it all in and keep mixing it in. There are others out there that are more experienced about that, but it's a job.
Easiest? Raised beds!!! Make bottomless boxes, lay them on the ground and fill them with the compost, manure and good stuff ... no digging!! And if you, eventually want to get rid of the boxes, the dirt will probably have filtered down enough to help the clay underneath.
Good luck!
