Chicken Coop Project - Day 3

10:39 PM, Sunday, May 25, 2008 .. Posted in Chickens .. 0 comments .. Link

Made progress today.  Layed out the plywood flooring on the foundation and that is done.  I am amazed that everything is level and diagonal measurements are equal so everything is also square!  I am not one to make things perfect.  I am a "good enough" kinda girl...  but I'm trying hard to make this project as perfect as I can.  I am even going back and fixing areas that don't turn out just right.

Here is the flooring all completed.  I have some more lumber set out and measured waiting to get cut for the front and back walls.

It was nice to have a level surface to put the back wall together on.  I layed it all out, squared it up and then screwed everything together.

Rod went with me today for a lumber run - got everything now except for plywood for the roof and walls, which should fit in the back of my truck.  I didn't get alot of visible progress done today, but I did alot of figuring.  The front wall of the coop is 7' high and the back wall is 5'.  Then the roof is a shed roof that slopes from front to back.  I had a hard time figuring out how to tell how long to cut the studs for the side wall.  I ended up laying everything out and measuring.  I will cut those pieces tomorrow and hope my measurements were correct!  Have to figure out how the windows will fit in and need to pickup my door so I can accommodate it in the framing.  I'm pleased with the progress so far, especially for having to do most of it by myself.  Rod is working nights and so is sleeping while I'm working on this.  He is getting ready to leave for the summer to Skagway on Tuesday, so he is busy packing up.  It's going to be lonely here  :o(  Well, at least I'll have some chickens to keep me company...
