Rod and I have talked about what we liked about last year's garden, what we want to change, and new stuff to try. I think I have a plan now and am doing some more reading on the new items we will be planting. I would like to expand the raised beds and have additional space for veggies. Here is what I've planned:
New Raised Beds:
* Strawberries (babies from other strawberry bed)
* Zucchini
* Cabbage
* Beets
* more Peas
I also have some raspberries, red currents, a bed of strawberries, rhubarb, and chives that are already established. I have a cherry tree - that has yet to fruit. I think I need to get another, but it is supposed to be self-fertile. I would love to have some apple trees, but I have yet to decide where I should plant some...
Here is the garden from last summer - the new raised beds will double the size of the garden.

Your garden looks great! Our neighbor does gardening like you all, with the plactic tarps and the pvc pipes.
I planted Jalapenos seed for the first time this year. I hope our gardens do well!
Have a great Day!

1) what is that white stuff - a tarp, soil paper, "floating row covers"? is it there for frosts, insects, deer?
2) how do you have your PVC attached to the boxes? I have my boxes made and filled, but would like to add the cover like you have.
Hi MorningSunshine:
The covering is just visqueen - clean plastic covering. I use it to keep excess rain off the plants and to create a warmer spot for them. I kept them over the tomatoes and potatoes all year and opened them up like you see in the picture so things didn't get too hot.
To attach the PVC pipes, I pounded a long nail into the side of the raised bed leaving a couple inches sticking out. The PVC pipe slides right over the nail. This makes it quite easy to disassemble at the end of the year. Good luck with your garden!

I am going to work on a garden this summer. What are egg prices there right now? We are having an egg shortage in Anchorage 18 eggs is 7.29 at safeway. :(
Hi Knitter!
Wow - that is high! I am paying $4.79 per dozen for organic, not sure what regular egg prices are. I've found that the prices at our Safeway are higher than the other stores on most items except the sale prices on meat. Their produce is really expensive. Look forward to hearing about your gardening!
