Tour of My Garden

I wanted to share some updated pictures of my garden.  Things have really shot up in the last couple weeks even though we had a straight week of rain.  It cleared up today and I could open up the covers and let everything dry out!  Here are my strawberries, onions, potatoes and tomatoes:

Here is one of the planters with my cherry tomatoes - five plants.  They just got some blossoms this week.

My wild strawberries are doing well this year - they are just loaded with little berries.  Can't wait to make some jam and taste some of those sweet berries!

I discovered that my root maggots are back in my onion bed - I thought I had gotten rid of them with the wood ash, but they had attacked.  I pulled all affected onions - about 30 - and put them in the burn pile.  I sprinkled the bed liberally with diatamaceous earth which is powdered stuff that is sharp to the bugs and kills them (I hope!).

We have been trying to come up with some sort of frame to make a door for the greenhouse with.  We found two wooden picture frames for free at a yard sale - so Rod attached them with a piece of wood and inserted some polycarbonate and attached some closet hardware so it will slide back and forth.  It isn't a perfect fit, but it will work great and I think it looks good too!  We will be adding a small swinging door at the bottom...

My cat sure likes the greenhouse!

I picked out a dark red to paint the outside of the planting box and the door.  It requires a tinted primer, so here is what it looks like today...

Pretty shocking, huh?!
