On the way home from work, I stopped at the hardware store and bought some 1/2" CPVC pipe to start on a project for my garden. We decided to build covers for the raised beds in the veggie garden out of the pipe, some fittings and 4mil visqueen. I cut a few of the pipes before I figured out how long I needed to make them. Decided the best length was 6' for the arches with 4' between them. I will add a 4' piece from the top of one arch to the next to tie things together and make everything more sturdy. The arches are slipped over a 3 1/2" nail pounded into the side of the raised bed. This will make it easy to disassemble in the fall. I secured the visqueen with some greenhouse clips, but I might change them to clothespins so they are easy to take off to roll up the plastic. The first one I put over my onion bed - here's some pics.
