Life in Southeast Alaska

The Perfect Summer Day to Me

This morning started out with blue sky again - the forecast was for rain.  I got up and going early since Rod went out fishing again today.  Showered, did dishes that I skipped last night, washed a load of clothes and hung them out on the line to dry.  I called my friend to see if she wanted to go berry picking.  She rounded up three of her kids and we were off.  We picked blueberries and black huckleberries for about and hour and ended up with quite a good bowl full.  The two little ones quickly tired of picking, so found other entertainment - listening to their yells echo in the culvert and throwing and retrieving rocks from there.  Her older daughter was having fun picking the berries and we talked about what she wanted to make from them.  She will be spending the day with me in a couple weeks to make blueberry muffins and homesteader honey.  We decided to quit and have a snack that I packed of fresh blueberry muffins and KoolAid.  The sun by now had disappeared behind clouds and the wind was coming up pretty good, so we decided to go home and have lunch.

I planned our dinners for the next 2 weeks, focusing again on what we have in the freezer.  Tonight we had fresh halibut that Rod brought home today with corn on the cob and rice.  A great meal to finish off a great day!  I suspect that tomorrow we will be back to the rain, so I'm glad we were both productive and enjoyed the nice weather while it lasted.
