Today it was Sunny!Today was a gorgeous day! Blue skies and 75 degrees - yea, finally. I think everyone in town was out enjoying the day - at least they were if they are smart. We have had one of the rainiest summers I can remember. I woke up yesterday morning to clear skies and was pleasently surprised. It was so hard to work yesterday - all I wanted to do is get outside and enjoy the sun!
Went garage saleing this morning with a couple friends. Picked up two cases of canning jars for $2.00 - score! I also bought a Pendleton wool suit to cut up for my braided rug - $2.00 - it is brown and black patterned and will add a nice element to the rug. I think most of my other scraps are solid colors so far... I have been collecting wool items since last fall - from the thrift shop, the consignment shop (their $1 rack), and garage sales. The plan is to braid a rug for the living room which is rustic, lodge-style, so I want to keep in those colors - browns, tans, greens, maybe some dark red.
This afternoon I started working in my vegetable garden constructing a trellis/support system for some raspberries I will be transplanting. I had built a narrow raised bed to put them in on the outside edge of the garden and I still need to finish hauling the dirt to fill it up. Our black lab Clover was out with me - she took a swim in the pond and then just rolled around in the grass while I was working.
Rod called on his way back in from fishing - he and his buddy caught 4 halibut, so I went and helped them fillet, skin and pack them for the freezer. Whew, that was a big job! They were medium sized - about 25 to 30 pounds a piece. We probably ended up with about 40 pounds in fillets total. They are headed back out in the morning again. They are talking about going fishing next weekend at a place called Sweetheart Creek - it is a subsistence only area, so you fish with nets only, no hooks. I've heard that the bears are thick there too - the people that go not only see bears, they are close to them. But you are allowed 25 Sockeye Salmon per person, per day. I already have plans for smoked salmon and canned salmon and fillets in the freezer...
I will probably pick some black huckleberries tomorrow - I checked my usual spot and they are ready, so I better get them picked! I picked a few by the roadside last night, and some red huckelberries too. The red ones make a great jelly, so I need to find some more of those!
