Jane Austen's ***Mansfield Park***
Sunday, January 27, 2008

As a HUGE fan of Jane Austen, I felt compelled to remind those other Austen Fans that Mansfield Park is on tonight on your local PBS station.
Take note that All in the month of January up until March 30, when they end with Sense & Sensibility, that PBS's broadcasts of Masterpiece Theater are ALL of Austen's novels. If you have never seen her other works, please do so! She was far above her time as a writer in her thirties living in the 18th Century. She wrote compelling romance novels while living with her sister and mother as a single woman. Often her Characters took on so many rolls in a society that held woman dependent upon marriage in order to be secure. She used humor to bypass the realism that soon took place in the 19th Century culture. Jane lived her life single and proved that while women often needed love, they didn't have to depend on marriage to sustain security, even though her life was led by her Christian faith and guidance. Jane's love of writing was what sustained her adequate need to provide professional security.
The movie Becoming Jane is a slight glimpse into her own life. It was romantic, refreshing and sad all in one and really depicted the very person Jane was as an author.
If you do not know her works and are interested in learning more, please stop by Jane Auten Society of North America, or look up your local chapter in your own country if this link doesn't apply to your area. There are TONS of Jane Auten Societies all over the world.
Blessings to you all.
