Cook Stoves & Wood Stoves, Economic and a Taste of History
Wednesday, November 28, 2007

The Waterford Stanely Cookstove is made in Waterford, Ireland and heats with hard Wood
This is Vermont Castings Defiant Wood Burning Stove made in Vermont
Both stoves are made with Quality and are economical during a time when Fuel and Electric Bills have been skyrocketing.
I don't have my home or my homestead yet. But I've been doing alot of research while we are working our way to get debt free and saving for our future. While my family back home doesn't understand why we're choosing to live the way we are, i.e. adopting, choosing to live our lives for Christ, learning to live within our means, wanting to have a homestead to utilize our own resources for food and energy and such, I find great peace in knowing that we are learning all that God has intended us to learn so that we may teach our children and otherswho may want to learn along the way.
My dream is to have a homestead if God wills it, and to utilize environmentally healthy ideas for everyday use such as a cook stove heated by wood and a wood burning stove to heat in the wintertime. The above stoves were found at lehmans and heat evenly and efficiently. Researching how to take care of them in order to stay safe without fires is something I will do next.
While these stoves are quite pricey (we'll be saving awhile) they are economical, bring a sense of history, and work well for what I'll be using it for.
How many of you have Wood Burning Stoves or Cook Stoves?
Let me know what you think of them. Your pro's and con's.
Something else I'd thought I'd throw out there. I used to work at Lowes Home Improvement Center in Upstate NY where my best friend works as a District Manager. I learned that installing Ceramic Tile will add more value to your home. With a wood burning stove and a cook stove, it seems like we'll be one day adding ceramic tile to both the kitchen and the center room where the heating unit will go. I just love the look of ceramic tile, and adding throw rugs here and there really make a room look comfy.
So I thought I would add my dream kitchen appliance to the archives so that I would have future reference. While I would like Lehmans antique refrigerator, it makes no sense to pay 5 thousand dollars for a refrigerator that looks antique only to have it one day go. I would rather use that money to refurbish our future home and buy a regular refrigerator that will go with the above set. Shouldn't be hard, and definately would be better for our pocket books. You can bet I'll be using Dave Ramsey's Tip on "Getting a Deal" with those items though.
Check out their stoves -

Those are very pretty. We use a wood stove for heat in the house we're renting from DH's uncle. It also has propane heaters which we have chose not to use as it cost so much right now.We really like it,it heats the house up pretty quick.Con - You have to clean the ashes out about once a day,not very hard but could be messy.
