5 blinks every morning

My Honey just left for work. And I just saw my 5 blinks for today. You see, our favorite number is 5. Why? Well, our first date was on August 5, 1989. We were married on January 5, 1991. Thus, the number 5 has a special place in our hearts. Each month on the 5th, we say Happy Anniversary to each other, adding up how long we've been together and how long we've been married.

Each time Honey leaves for work, he taps the brakes enough to blink the lights 5 times. Actually, he does it twice. Once going up the driveway, and a second time once he's on the road. I flash the porch light to him 5 times. If I leave him home for some reason, I do the same. It's one more good bye. It just warms my heart when he does it. It's the little things, ya know?!

That's one of our traditions. Another one is that whenever we part, whether he's leaving for work or just going out in the yard, we kiss 5 times. Doesn't matter if he's coming right back in, I still get my kisses. If he gets to the door and has not kissed me, he tells me his conscience wouldn't let him go out without coming back for his kisses. Can you tell I love kissing my Man?!

I am very much a touchy feely person. I LOVE to hug on my Honey and babes. The same way I kiss my Honey when he leaves, I do the same for my babes. Not that I leave them very often, but when I do, there must be a round of kisses handed out. Mary has come running out to get one more kiss on nights when I leave for my monthly Mom's night out. And Natalie...well, my sweet Natalie...I think she's got the kissing and snuggle bug as much as her Mama! Thomas still likes to cuddle, you just have to show him it's available. He'll still sit on my lap and cuddle with me. Isn't that wonderful? A 12 year old son still cuddling up with his Mama. Oh, I love to see him kiss his Daddy good night. Just warms my heart that our family shares that closeness. And let's not forget Miss Rebecca. She, too, likes to cuddle...though she doesn't think so. She gives her kisses, but sometimes, you have to ask for that hug. I know it's in her...and I know her husband and children will be the recipients of much loving!

My children are sent off to bed with "Sweet Baby Rebecca dreams, Sweet baby Thomas dreams, Sweet baby Natalie dreams, Sweet baby Mary dreams. I love you all, sleep well." That's our nightly ritual. I've been saying that to them since they were indeed babies. I'll say it till I can't speak any more. My Aunt Di used to live directly across the street from her parents, my Pap and Gram. Each night, she'd get in bed and call her Mom to say good night. She'd do this even if she had just been over there visiting! I always thought that was incredibly sweet. That was my Aunt Di. Such an inspiration to me. It's memories like that that make life sweet. The world can be such a cold, hard place. Home should be a warm, loving place.

I'd love to know some of your lovey traditions!!! I think it's vitally important to show your love to your loved ones. If you do blog about it, please let me know in a comment so I can come read it!!

I love the 5 blinks. That is just precious. I will have to spend time today thinking about this. If I come up with something I will put it in my blog.
Blessings,
Jennie

Ohhhhh... that is so sweet! :)

I remember my dad would flash his headlights as he left for work in the morning if he knew we were waving goodbye (he worked swing shift, so sometimes we WEREN'T up). And during the day, we would wave and he would toot the horn. I do the same now with my children.

We have others... maybe I WILL blog about it.

Laurie,
That is soooo incredibly sweet. We have a kissy/huggy family too. I too, have an 11 yr. old 100+ lb. boy who likes to snuggle. The really sad thing is that when we went to visit a small group Bible study at the church we have been visiting, my girls gave Dh and I as they were going outside. The pastor's wife told another 16 yr. old girl, " See some kids really do love their parents." I was appalled. I know there are kids out there who don't but for it to be accepted in the church was really upsetting to me.
Blessings,
Trixi
