EGGS!!

{ 12:26, Friday, March 14, 2008 } { Posted in Thoughts } { 4 comments } { Link }

Well, the chickens sure like the warmer weather we are having...I have a refrigerator full of eggs to show for it!
I counted them this morning as I was cleaning out the extra frig. We currently have 21 dozen eggs!

So, I am making hard boiled eggs this afternoon. :)  Guess what we'll be having for breakfast one of our three day weekend days?!

We also have Easter coming up...we like to do at least a dozen eggs per child for coloring and hiding. But, that's only 4 dozen.... :)

We used to sell our eggs to friends. Guess I need to call some up and ask if they'd like to buy some nice, fresh, farm raised eggs?! Probably need to raise our price...feed sure has gone up since we last sold eggs. Honey bought two bags yesterday.... $12 a bag! Ouch!! When we first got our chickens, almost four years ago, feed cost only $4 a bag...what an increase!

Anywho...if you have any great egg recipes, send 'em my way....!

Laurie, can you please send your chickens to talk to my chickens? I only got 2 measly eggs today and this was a good day!! Freeloaders!! At 12 bucks a bag, they'd best get with the laying or we may have a big roasted chicken feast :)

Laurie,
Sure wish I lived closer to you to buy some of these eggs...I've NEVER had a farm fresh egg.
How many laying hens do you all have and how long will the 2 bags of feed last?
We have thought about getting chickens, but have not yet.
Love ya,
Cathy

Yay! Congrats!! My chickens are certainly not earning their keep these days. I think we got maybe two eggs this whole winter, lol. BUT, I'm sure that will change here soon.

When they are doing their job and I have extra, I love to make egg noodles and angelfood cakes. That uses up a lot of the excess. I make a baked french toast casserole that uses 8 eggs (I think). That's a yummy way to spend an egg. :-)

Enjoy!

I know what you mean about the chickens laying. We only have 10 laying hens and are averaging 4 dozen a week. Yesterday, we got 9 eggs. It's a good problem to have. Our neighbors run a dairy and give us fresh milk so I give them eggs. I think its a great trade off.
Blessings,
Trixi
