Gentle...

{ 10:57, Saturday, July 21, 2007 } { Posted in Thoughts } { 3 comments } { Link }

So, I look outside today and there's my Honey...he's feeding Gentle some alfalfa cubes and rubbing her. And she's loving it. And I feel sad that we are not milking her.
There's all that milk...just waiting to be taken...and we are not. Why?

FEAR.

I feel fear....and I wish I could just get over it and find that comfortable feeling I used to have around her. She's not a bad cow...she did inflict mucho pain and suffering upon me...but she's not bad. She simply didn't want to do what I wanted her to...and she showed me she was not going to do it. Unlike those on the family cow message board where I posted, I don't think there's a stick big enough to have prevented her from doing this.

Her name has gone from Gentle to Stupid Cow to Dumb cow....eventually maybe, just maybe, she'll return to Gentle...who knows...stranger things have happened.....

Lauri,
I don't have any advice to give. I just wanted to tell you that I would have a VERY hard time getting over that fear as well. I don't know if I could. It was a very scary thing that you and your family went through. I am sure that if you are meant to keep Gentle, God will provide you with the courage to face her again.

Laurie,
Your fear is very real...what you went through was very tragic. It would be wonderful for Gentle to return to her sweet ways....will you all be keeping her?
Love you all my friend.
Blessings,
Cathy

Hi Laurie,

Wow, I haven't blogged or been on the Homestead for 2 whole weeks! Weird! I miss you all soooo much!

I would be scared, too, and I think it's going to be hard for you to get over it. BUT I bet you will eventually. You seem like a "get back on the horse" kind of gal :) LOL How's that for a compliment?

I have always wanted a milk cow, but we haven't gotten one for the very reason you are talking about. They are big animals. No matter how gentle they may be, they are BIG and could unintentionally hurt or even kill somebody. We wouldn't feel like the kids could roam the pasture anymore, and that would be sad because they love it out there.

Well I've rambled long enough. I'll "talk" to you tomorrow on the Homestead :) Glad Toby's back wasn't hurt too badly!!

Love,
Leah
