Abundant Blessings Homestead

Gentle is so...well, Gentle!

We have certainly been abundantly blessed with Gentle. She is, if there is such a thing, the perfect cow. She is incredibly patient with us newbie milkers. Thomas is THE milker man! He really puts his Mama to shame on that one. My hand tends to cramp and needs to be strengthened. Thomas can milk her out with no cramping...could be the 10 year old thing, eh?! Nah, we'll give him his due. He is awesome at this.

I am determined to conquer this and be a proficient milker as well.

We milked 1/2 gallon the first night...and 1 gallon at each milking yesterday. That milk was sure delicious yesterday morning!

Gentle follows us around the pasture, as Thomas says, like a big, overgrown dog. She laid down in another part of the barn (a big open area) while we were working in there getting it ready for our pigs to come on Thursday. While she was lying there, Natalie and Thomas started brushing her. She closed her eyes and sure looked like she was sleeping while they did this!
Gentle is certainly an answer to prayer...we wanted a very patient, gentle cow to teach us. She is that and then some. After milking her yesterday, we let her out into the pasture. Dad told me she would be waiting for us when it was time to milk. He was right...Went out at 5 and there she was...waiting for us. No chasing her, no leading her. She was just there, waiting to go into the stanchion to be milked.

She ate very well last night. And then drank ALOT. She hadn't eaten a good amount since arriving. But, she ate a "full plate" last night.

We are quite blessed...and I see that it is now 5 and time to get Thomas up so we can get outside to milk. Tonight, we will have to milk a bit early. We have a 4-H poultry project meeting at 6. Hope she doesn't mind a bit early. Nope...I don't think she will. After all, she is Gentle!

It is great news that you are doing so well. Now, make sure you let us know if you have ANY problems ... not that you will, if she keeps this up!

You got the perfect cow for your family. Isn't it neat that God cares about the kind of cow you get. He answered your prayers.
Blessings,
Andrea
