Changes around here!

This weekend, the weather was pretty cold on Saturday. We used that as our errand day. Sunday, though, was work day. We raked up a ton (or it sure felt like a ton!) of leaves from around the yard. While Natalie and I were raking, Thomas was using the broadcast spreader and spreading rock phosphate, lime, greensand and Fertrell fertilizer over our garden area. This area has never been used as a garden, so there is much prep work to be done.

Once Thomas finished, we started spreading leaves. When we ran out of leaves, we took out some hay..spread 6 bales out there. The chickens are still in this area, so they are busily fertilizing and pecking through the leaves and hay.
When we finished that, we yanked out 4 bushes that have needed to go since we moved in! They were right in front of the porch and divided the yard... Not attractive (unless it was Christmas time and they had lights all over them!). We wrapped them with a chain and pulled them out with Tonto ( our trusty Scout!). They came out with no problem...especially since it has rained so much lately, the ground was rather moist. The children and I scraped all the dirt off we could. Then, they were loaded up two at a time in Tonto and taken to the goat area. They can chomp away on them. We filled in the holes...but need to get some leveling done. I can't wait to plant some grass seed on that area and beyond a bit to have a nice yard! It will be so much larger for our outside activities. We set  up a volleyball/badminton net every spring..this will give us much more room for that.

This morning, right after chores, where was Thomas? Outside scraping dirt. He is such a worker. I am such a blessed Mama!
The weather today is gray, cloudy and overcast. It's in the mid 50's, but looks like it's freezing out. The wind is blowing. Supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow. There was a chance of snow on Wednesday. We would so love to see some of that white stuff!!!

All this work sure made me sore....but a good sore. Doing jobs like this make me appreciate being able, physically, to work.
Time to get the seed catalogs out and start making a garden plan. Life is getting exciting!
