Father's Day

Father's Day....
There is much done on Mother's Day to celebrate us. How much is done on Father's Day to celebrate them?
Parents today are being sent so many messages....Moms need to work, children need to be in day care, Dads need to work three jobs to keep the family in style. It's a never ending treadmill. We balk at all that nonsense. Nope, we don't drive the latest vehicles, don't have a fancy wardrobe, don't have a fancy home, But, what we do have is incalculable. We have each other. We have a Daddy who lovingly supports, encourages  and loves us. We are happy. And we have time to be a family. You know, this is not a race. This is life...and in the end, we will all die. Where will we go when we get there? One of my favorite songs is called Taking My Time. It speaks of the only thing I am taking to Heaven is my time. Where did I spend my time? Did I spend it on worthless activities that had no fruit? Or did I spend it with my babes? Will my babes accept Christ and therefore go to Heaven as well? That's the biggest goal we have as parents. For if we give them everything else, but they don't know Christ, we haven't done our job. God gave us these children to raise. They are His to begin and end with. It is our job to love, nurture and raise them.
We thank our Heavenly Father for all that He is. For all that He has blessed us with...and believe me, we are indeed abundantly blessed. We also thank Him for our earthly Fathers.
Toby's Dad passed away in 2003. He had his shortcomings, for sure. But, he was Daddy. He was Papa. And he is dearly missed.  He passed down a love for family. A sense of right and wrong.
My Dad...well, what can I say about Dad? He's ALWAYS been there for his family...and for mine. He is a rock we can lean on when we are troubled or need help. He is always ready for an adventure...and loves to get lost so he can find his way home again! He encourages us to do more, to try new things, to stretch ourselves. He's well....my Dad!
My Honey....he's an awesome Daddy. He didn't really grow up with a great example. But, he is patient, loving and kind. He is firm when he needs to be....and a bit more mushy than he lets on. His life is his family. He gives up things that he dreams of for us. He leads and uplifts each of us. And we are so thankful to call him Husband and Father.
Father's Day should get the same attention that Mother's Day does. Fathers should be celebrated. They should not be shown, as they are portrayed in the media, bumbling idiots. They are much needed. They are needed to be MEN. And they are anything but idiots.
So, if you are blessed to still have your Dad with you, call him today. Tell him how much you love him.
And, Dad, I LOVE YOU!!!!

Hi Laurie,
I loved your post on this. Our sermon yesterday for Father's Day was about this also. I think it's so sad that society makes men/husbands appear to look dumb and think it's cute. I'm so proud that Jon is the head of our home....I just love being protected by him. I know you feel the same for your sweetie too.
Thanks for posting this, I enjoyed it.
Love to you all.
Cathy

Wonderful post.

Laurie, I really enjoyed your post about fathers. You are so right. My dad and FIL are both gone, so I focused the whole day on my dh. We sat, visited, and watched 3 movies together. All the children called him, and our sons furnished shrimp and ice cream for supper. It was a great day. Blessings, Winona
