Changes on the Farm

God has answered prayer. My daughter wanted to get some chickens now rather than waitiing till spring especially with the economy the way it is. After investigating the online hatcheries and finding out how much it would cost to ship almost ready to lay pullets she decided it would be better to order chicks. It would mean wating till spring for them to be ready to lay.  But she would have to order the usually 25 that they send to you and then figuring out how to house all of them from brooder to henhouse.

It just so happens a new friend/neighbor calls within a few days of the chicken plans being made who tells us she is reducing her pullets since they will be out of town anyway. They will be ready to lay very soon. Woo HOO!!!  This very same friend also was sending their steers to butcher for meat and offered to sell us as much as we liked. So now we have an order in for organic beef for the winter.

My daughter and hubby needed to make a few changes around the farm too for looks, convenience of mowing and esthetics.

First they needed an easy way to get to the back yard and garden area.

This involved trimming the bushes and the pulling some out with M's dad's truck.

Now wwe have a clear space to walk.

Then they wanted to get rid of a tree that was dying anyway and was ugly. It also was in the way of the mower it was growing so low. After unchaining me from the tree where I was trying to "Save the Tree" they trimmed all the lower branches first before cutting it down. (Sorry no pics of me with the chain, camera was in my pocket.)

Have you ever watched the old movie "The Egg and I" because there is a funny scene about them sawing down a tree and disagreeing where it would land?

My sil told my d to run if it headed towards her but it didn't. TIMBERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!

The front porch is decorated for the fall.

Little grandson B is just an added extra.

Blessings.
