Brownie Cameras

Posted in Brownie Cameras

I know that many enjoy the posts about my antiques and I have been neglecting them lately.

I like to collect "Kodak Brownie" cameras. I only had one until my dear friend Maddie had found these two. They are not always easy to find at a good price and most people do not like to sell them once they have found them.

~The first brownie camera was made in 1900 as the box camera and later it was a folding camera and went back to a box camera in the 30's. They stopped making the brownie in about 1963. There are over a hundred different models of brownie cameras. The brownie was named because Pamler Cox who wrote the "Brownies" series for "Ladies home Journal" promoted Kodak cameras. The last brownie camera ever made was the "Anniversary Brownie" in 1980 after 20 years of being forgotten, and is once again a forgotten model of camera.~

I will start from oldest to newest.

This is all three of them lined up.

This is my "Kodak Brownie Flash Six-20" (This is missing its flash and I need to purchase a new one).(Sorry it came out blury, it was hard to get one this good.)

This is the ad for the "Six-20"

This camera was introduced in July 1946 and discontinued in January 1955. Its original price was six dollars and is now worth anywhere from eight to fifteen dollars. I spent $7.50 at the GoodWill.

This is my "Kodak Brownie Hawkeye Flash Model".

This is an ad for the "Hawkeye". This ad was from a copy of "Life Magazine", January 31st, 1955 (the day and year my Father was born).

This camera was introduced in May of 1949 and discontinued in July of 1961. The Original price for the camera was $5.50 and the flash was $7.00. Now the worth of just the camera is $10-$15. I purchased camera and flash for $10.00 from the GoodWill.

This is my "Kodak Brownie Holiday Flash".

This is an ad for the "Holiday". This ad is from 1955.

This camera was introduced in October of 1953 and discontinued in April of 1962. Its original price was $5.00 and is now worth $8-$15. My Grandmother bought it new in the 1950's and it was there family camera until it was given to my Mother as a teenager in the 1970's.

I hope you enjoyed this entry and I will post again on Monday. In the words of Christina Rossetti, "Better by far you should forget and smile than you should remember and be sad."

Sincerely,

~Mary-Ann~

I have had the one from my Mother for two years and I had just bought the other two this week. I have been looking for them since I got the first one from my Mother, but they are usually much to expensive to even think about buying them. I found a Hawkeye back at Christmas and it cost $35. The are not an easy type of camera to find. Out of the ones I have the Hawkeye is the easiest to find. The first brownie camera was made in 1900 as the box camera and later it was a folding camera and went back to a box camera in the 30's. They stopped making the brownie in about 1963. There are over a hundred different models of brownie cameras. The brownie was named because Pamler Cox who wrote the "Brownies" series for "Ladies home Journal" promoted Kodak cameras. The last brownie camera ever made was the Anniversary Brownie" in 1980 after 20 years of being forgot and is once again a forgotten model of camera.( I think I am going to post the information I gave you here.)

I am still looking for these cameras at all Antique shops and second hand stores. I hope to get a folding brownie camera soon.

Sincerely,

~Mary-Ann~
