~Poetry~

Posted in ~Poetry~

  One of my Favorite writers is Robert Frost. In this category I will share poems I have written and poems from my Favorite Authors. This one will contain one of my poems and one of Robert Frost's poems.

(Painting by Arthur Rackham, one of my favorite painters.)

To the Thawing Wind

Come with rain, O loud Southwester!

Bring the singer, bring the nester;

Give the buried flower a dream;

Make the settled snow-bank steam;

Find the brown beneath the white;

But whate'er you do tonight,

Bathe my window, make it flow,

Melt it as the ice will go;

Melt the glass and leave the sticks

Like a hermit's crucifix;

Burst into my narrow stall;

Swing the pictures on the wall;

Run the rattling pages o'er;

Scatter poems on the floor;

Turn the poet out the door.

~Robert Frost~

Now this is one of my poems. Not as grand as our dear Mr. Frost, but I think it will do. I write Children's stories and poetry.

(This is also Arthur Rackham's work.)

Our Ship

We will build a tidy ship,

A tidy ship for two.

I'll be the captain and you be the firstmate;

Unless your a captain too.

We will need a trusty crew,

That is something we must check;

My lead soldier can keep the look out

While dolly mops the deck.

We will need to have a sail;

This old sheet will do.

We will need some food along the way;

Go fetch a tart or two.

First we'll go to France and Spain

And stop in India as we go along our way;

Then it's on to darkest Africa,

Then China if we may.

We will sail around the world,

But be home in time for tea;

Then we will leave our little ship

Made for you, dolly, soldier, and me.

I hope you enjoyed the first entry in "Poetry". I love writing and I am working on getting my first book published.

In the words of Percy Bysshe Shelley, "Poetry is the record of the best and happiest moments of the happiest and best minds."

Sincerely,

~Mary-Ann~

I've only recently read any real poetry (unless you count Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein) and I am really starting to like it. You're is excellent, and I think Robert Frost could've been reading my mind right about now.
