Dear Reader

   I was thinking last evening. Have you ever wondered why people think if someone owns a dairy cow they are a Farmer, but if someone owns a dairy goat they are a Hippie. I guess they figure making goat milk soap is a thing only hippies do or because in movies when ever it involves a hippie that lives off the land they always own a goat. Sometimes my mind goes to wandering and that is why I think of these things. I know lots of people who own goats that are not hippies. I do not have any thing against hippies because my family is somewhat of a hippie family, but we are farmers and that is what we go by. We live on a farm and farming is what we do.

  I cannot what until spring so we can start our garden. I wish to make a small butterfly garden this year. I have had one before and the are easy to keep. They are quite lovely too. It is also handy if you like to pin butterflies like I do. One of my favorite plants in a butterfly garden is Canadian Hemlock. If anyone would like to know how to make a butterfly garden I am going to give you a few plants to use. You must be careful when planting because some plants chase butterflies away. Here are a few plants:

Black Eyed Susans

Canadian Hemlock

Bee Balm

Lavender

Cosmos

Asters

Zinnia

Mustard

and Fennel.

Now these plants may not grow everywhere. Some butterflies also prefer trees rather than plants, Like the Orange Tip Admiral lives souly off of Willow trees. Plant to what kind of butterflies you want to have around. You want to keep away from butterflies that in their caterpillar stage may eat your vegetable garden.

   I am interested in raising peacocks. I would like to know if any one raises them that could give me some information. When I wanted to raise ducks I studied up on them, but it is not easy finding a "How to Raise Peacocks" book. I have had friends with peacocks so I know they must live in a covered shelter/pen or they will fly away. What I would like to know is things like what to feed them and can I keep more than one peacock male in a pen or can I only have one and the rest have to be peahens. Any information would be helpful.

Peggy over at HomemadeSimplicity is planning on planting the same herbs as you. She posted it today.
Hope your ankle feels better. I have had 4 ankle surgeries and they are not fun!

When you are finally all moved, we'll have a garden planning tea. We can decide what flower seeds we want to buy together and share. You can have some starts of my bee balm and such and we can scribble away. Hope your belly is better this morn.
