bread

Well... I am trying to make our own bread... I tried yesterday... I tried a few months ago and I tried years ago... all with the same result... BAD!

I would love to hear from the experts of some tried and true methods to get light and fluffy bread instead of hard as a rock and thick bread...

Well.. even though it is January... I worked out in the garden today for a bit... I needed to pull out some old plants. I am trying to get my plans together for our garden this spring. I am also looking for some inexpensive plans for a smallish greenhouse. I would like to do a lean to off of one of our back sheds.

We live out in the country so we use Hughes Net for our satellite internet... This company is starting to irriate me. Every Saturday night at 9:10 pm... it slows down  and we get a little orange warning that we have exceeded our threshhod. It lasts all day Sunday and then on Monday it goes back to being green.. I have sent email after email and have gotten absolutely no response.

For those of you that live in the country... what do you use for internet access?

1st Entry

I couldn't think of an original title! I will try harder with the next one! I swear!!

I have been lurking around reading blogs here for some time and I thought that tonight I would give it a try myself. Our family is just beginning the self sufficient life... Both my husband and I still work outside the home. Hopefully some day soon I will be able to stay home.

We have a 13 year old wonderful daughter who has been blessed with great athletic ability. She seems to excel at every sport she plays... and she plays a lot. Right now she is involved in volleyball at her school, a cheerleader (yes that is definately a sport) and she plays travel softball all year round. She definately keeps us busy running from here to there..

My husband is a hard working man who works for a construction company that installs windows.. thankfully he has worked all year round this year. Many years, since he works outside, the weather is to bad to work outside... but so far this year he has only been off for two days because of the weather! He is pretty handy, he is currently fixing up our very old house. We live in the home that he was raised in. So that is pretty nice, except for the fact that it is not in the greatest shape... but, slowly but surely we are making it into our home.

I work for a steel company  about 25 miles from our home. I am starting my 7th year working there and I really do like it alot. I work in inventory control directly for the plant manager. It is really a joy to go to work and I enjoy all of my co workers immensly!

Lately I have been delving into the idea of self sufficency. I have learned how to do some beginning canning. I started with strawberry jam and I have also made grape jelly. I really liked do it. We are cooking more and eating at home much more then we used too. I am trying to learn more about healthful recipes. We live on just about 5 acres. We don't have any farm animals yet... but my husband really wants to get a pig... I think I would more partial to chickens..

We currently have four dogs and countless outside cats... We do let them in though.. My husband has an animal magnitism about him.. and animals just hord around him... the cats follow him everywhere... even going into the restroom with him... He calls him "the cat patrol"  It is really odd. He has even had a wild bird land on his shoulder before... and a raccoon mama watched him as he approached her babies and even waited while he came in the house at 4 in the morning to wake up our daughter and I so that we could see them... It is almost like the animals know he will never do them any harm.

Anyways... I wanted to introduce myself and I hope to get to know many of you and hope to learn alot from  you as well!!!
