Homemade Chocolate Ice Cream

We made chocolate ice cream this week and it was delicious!! I promised to post the recipe so here it is!  This is a variation of my Strawberry Ice Cream recipe (recipe link at the bottom of this post).  As I try out new flavors I will post them here..

Chocolate Ice Cream
Makes 1 gallon

6 eggs
3 cups cane juice crystals
¾ c cocoa powder
1 T vanilla  (only the real stuff)
2 c. whole cream
Whole Goat Milk, as much as needed to fill ice cream maker container (whole cow milk will work too..  :)
1 T arrowroot powder (helps make the ice cream smooth.. but this is optional if you don’t have any)

In a big mixer (like a Kitchen Aid or Bosch) mix together (with the wire whip) the eggs and cane juice crystals until light and lemony colored.  Add cocoa powder and vanilla mix again.  Add cream and arrowroot powder (if using).  When all of this has mixed together completely pour it into your 1 gallon ice cream maker container.  Add whole milk until you reach the “fill line” on your ice cream maker container.  Follow the instructions that came with your ice cream maker or you can read here: http://www.thefamilyhomestead.com/strawberryicecream.htm  for basic instructions (the directions are for strawberry ice cream, but the basic “how tos” will work for any flavor).

T-Yarn

I have a site bookmarked on my computer that uses recycled materials to make bags and purses.  While I've seen a lot of wal-mart bags used in crochet, I never knew about T-yarn.  This is taking t-shirts and cutting then to make a yarn to crochet or knit with.  What a good way to reycle old t-shirts.  We get a lot of them. The site is  http://www.myrecycledbags.com/2009/06/05/making-t-yarn-from-recycled-tee-shirts/  .

Here is a picture of the T-yarn taken from that site.A new project!

Update on the UN Children's Rights Treaty

Dear Friend of Parental Rights,

Monday in a Harlem middle school, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice told a group of 120 students that administration officials are actively discussing “when and how it might be possible to join”  (that is, ratify) the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).  As before, she also communicated what a disgrace it is that the U.S. would stand with only Somalia against such a widely-accepted treaty.

This is the first direct public statement by the Obama administration that it will seek ratification of the UN CRC.

In my 30 years of political involvement, I have learned to recognize this as what is called a “trial balloon.” Like in World War I trench warfare, our opponents have “sent up a balloon” to see if it will draw fire. If things remain quiet, they will proceed with their plans to push for ratification of the CRC in the U.S. Senate.

To discourage them from doing so, we need to make sure that our voices are heard with unmistakable clarity.  We must let the Obama administration know that we oppose this anti-family, anti-American treaty.

Here’s what we need you all to do:

1.      Call the White House comments line at 202-456-1111. Tell them you heard the administration wants to ratify the CRC, and you strongly oppose this giving away of U.S. sovereignty to the UN. Also keep in mind that this treaty gives the government jurisdiction to override any decision made by any parent if the government thinks that a better decision can be made—even if there is no proof of any harm.

2.      Call Ambassador Susan Rice’s office at the United Nations. Tell her that you want her to represent the United States to the world rather than trying to get the United States to go along with international law initiated by the UN.  Her office number is 212-415-4000.

3.      Contact your Senators and urge them to oppose ratification of this treaty. (Find your Senators’ contact information by typing your zip code into the box here.) Ask them also to defeat it once and for all by cosponsoring SJRes 16 – the Parental Rights Amendment.

It is very important that we speak up right now.  Please call before you close this email!

Sincerely,

Michael Farris

There is a Snake in my Bathroom !

Posted by GrannyG

Benny went into MY bathroom to wash his hands for supper and

came out laughing....."Hon, now don't flip out, but there is a

snake in your bathroom." He knows I cannot stand them....and

there have been snakeskins found in the attic, plus we have had

a few which met their demise in here if I have seen them. "He is

just a bull snake, so don't hurt him, okay?"

"I am not making you any promises if I see him, I will probably make a hole in the

wall with my silhouette running out of there if I see it..." "Well,

you could give it a little milk every day......warm milk, like my

grandpa used to do when he milked, he kept them out in the

barn and gave them warm milk."  "Well, if you think I am going

to warm milk up for a dumb snake, you have another thought

coming, buddy boy, no way in Hades will I warm milk up for

that creepy crawler," He now tries to appeal to me to be kind to

the snake...."He will catch mice, and he won't chew up any

clothes. " He keeps laughing, I finally get a flashlight and go

into the bathroom, I hunted everywhere but could not see the

snake. "He just laid up there on the sink, then slithered over the

handles on the sink when I washed my hands, he was about

two feet long"....."Oh dear Lord, sometimes you send me trials I

will really have to pray hard about.......You know I cannot stand

snakes, Lord, even if you made them......and look what that one

did in the Garden, Lord, You even made him crawl on his belly

the rest of his life.....and all of his kin included, and Lord, just

have mercy on me and do not let me close to that creature !" I

have had some good talks with the Lord, and I hope He answers

my prayers, and that snake finds a good exit route out of my

bathroom !
