The question first... How do you get a pill down a dogs throat that, in no way, shape, or form wants to take that pill. I have tried hiding it in a treat. I have one dog that swollows before she even tastes it.. this would work for her.. but Molly very daintily eats her treats.. Trying to push it down her throat usually ends up not going where it needs to... I would very much appreciate some ideas.. we have 9 more days of 2 pills twice a day..
I made hominy today, it was an interesting process, First I sorted the corn, much like one would if you were cooking beans, removing any broken kernals. I then took a gallon of water and added 1/3 cup of baking soda, and covered the corn with it, (you need a big pan, the corn swells 3 or 4 times what you start with). I boiled this for about 2 hours adding water as needed, during the first half hour the corn turned bright orange, then I leached out into the water and the corn was yellow again. At about 2 hours the hulls were beginning to slip. I rinsed the the corn with fresh water. with the pan full of cool water I rubbed the corn between my hands causing the hulls to come loose, I took the pan with the corn outside and ran water into the pan stirring it with one hand genly , as the pan overflowed the hulls went out onto the ground. I fill covered the corn with fresh water and brought it back to a boil for another 2 hours ( you could add some salt at this point if you wished)... until the corn was chewy. I drained the pan and spread it out on my dehydrator shelves... I am drying it now.. hopefully I can make masa flour tomorrow and then tamales from there. I also made 2 loaves of whole wheat bread that turned out wonderfully. I used milk and potatoes in it... the milk really does seem to make a softer crust.. and the testure of the bread is very good.. work well for sanwiches.. I also ordered the 12 inch loaf pans.. they should be here on friday.. I will have to try them out so I will now doubt be making bread again..:> My nephew is coming to hang out with his auntie on friday also...Im not sure what we will do, but I will figure out something...
