soil preparations

I have had gardens in the past but mostly just stuck the plants in the ground with a handfull of commercial fertilizer and let er go.  I decided this year to try to do it the "right way"  lol.. I took a sample of  the soil from my raised bed today and tested it... the PH looks to be at a good place, but the rest of it is depleted... I have plenty of  manure from the girls so I will use that to try and build up the raised bed.... I also want to plant some out and around on the property,  this soil I have not tested yet, but know it to be very heavy in clay.... I will also add a good bit of manure to that for this year and see what happens... from what I have been reading it would be good to find some leaves in the fall and till into those plots that are heavy in clay.  Any other thoughts or Ideas would be appreciated....

I bought a package of mixed lettuces I am going to plant today, it will be good here in a bit and  I just HAVE to plant something in the ground   hahaha..

I am recreating a mistake that turned out well a  few months back... I went to work one day and told my daughter to put the turkey in at 4:30 at  350 degrees, I had it all ready in one of those baking bags... when I got home she had very carefully taken it out of the bag (she hates to touch food) and put it in at 3:50 pm and had the oven at 430 ish degrees,  it had been cooking for about an hour when I caught it... I turned it down to 350 and let it finish cooking... well let me tell you that was one of the BEST turkeys ever cooked..well store bought ones... cant beat the home raised ones.  Anyway so I am trying to do that again.. started it out on high heat and then will turn it down in a bit.....I will post how it turned out:>

I think I will also make some yeast rolls to go with dinner, my daughter just finished grinding the wheat I had...I will make it half white and half WW.  should be good... I love the chewyness (is that a word) that WW gives bread and rolls...

My plum tree looks like its trying to blossom out... would be nice to get a few plums off it....we dont usually because it gets frosted...   as it probably will tonight... It is a beautiful day here today... the sun is warm and soothing... I have made many trips outside just to be in it... Each time I got out I think of things I want or need to do, I need to take a notebook with me so I dont forget. 

I have been thinking about my age the last few days... seems like the Bday I have coming up here in a few days is bugging me mightily this year...I will be the big 45 and I just dont like it a bit... not that I can do anything about it...my hard birthdays have been 25 not bad,  35 harder but not bad, 40 rough,  so this one ought to be a hum dinger.  Each year I notice a few more gray hairs,  I just dont feel like I am getting old inside..I dont feel much different then I did at 18 except I ache a bit more now than I did then...and I move a bit slower than I did then...but I also like where my mind it more now, then I did then.... you know there really ought to be some way to fix that...  At 18 my body did whatever I asked of it... my mind thought silly thoughts then, though... now I like where my mind is but my body is sure not there anymore...

well, I think I have grammatically butchered this post enough... Im not sure if I have the thens and thans in the right places or the there's and theirs in the right places..  but Im sure you get my drift   lol   Have a wonderful day friends...
