Cookware and other musings

My mom got rid of all her aluminum years ago.. I never have had aluminum cookware and never really knew why  lol.... most of mine is stainless steel or cast iron. I do have a few teflon pans that I will not be replacing, my DH is bucking this a bit.

I read Carlas post about the different types of pans and what they were made of... It looks to me that there are a few things I just would not cook (if I had aluminum pans) until I could replace the pans....I would not just throw em out and  put yourself in a hardship.... replace them as you can...just maybe a bit quicker then you would have.

This morning DH was hungry for biscuits and gravy and we didnt have sausage,  neither one of us wanted to go to the store.  I told him I could make him some even withouse sausage.  I took hamburger and browned it  then added salt and pepper,  sage and poultry seasoning, as well as some flour to thicken it with... then added a can of canned milk   when it was done  DH was amazed  lol....

I also borrowed a hand mill from my mom and have been grinding some wheat... I used some of that for the biscuits I made...he really enjoyed them as well...

The hens are starting to lay more now.. getting 4 eggs a day now...I have 9 hens...  Im thinking maybe we might build a chicken tractor or two this year and raise a few turkeys and some fryers...  I have to be careful how enthused I get over stuff because my DH is slowly coming around to the homesteading way of thinking  lol...

We do have to work on the frugal living stuff a bit...he decided he wanted to go fishing yesterday...bought a one day license for 12 dollars and caught 2 fish  then cooked them on the grill and forgot to turn off the grill afterwards... so they were about  10-11 dollars a piece,  they might have weighed a poune each... I dont pay 10-11 dollars a lb for any kind of meat  lol... and neither would he...but he sees this very differently    oh well gotta love him...

Non-frugal hubbies...

I'm in the process of replacing my teflon to stainless steel and using my cast iron skillets. I used to cook in aluminum years ago, and even beat my mashed potatoes in the pot! I finally got enough sense to beat them in a bowl.

I never realized you could make gravy out of hamburger!

Where do you get your wheat to grind?

So you have a non-frugal husband also?? Go to my blog and read my latest post on mine. I think you'll get a kick out of it!

I love my NON-FRUGEL Hubby.......

but I have to admit I could strangle him at times. I guess it takes time to change over to a whole new way of seeing things. But I have been working on this dear sweet man for 18 years!! He agrees with me in principle, but he never seems to be able to apply it!!

I am trying to decide between a conventional coop and a tractor. If you decide to build a tractor please post a picture.
