Heirloom seeds

A few years ago I saw a add for the local paper talking about a seed swap,  at that time I had little or no interest in gardening.  I havent seen anything like that in years... I buy the heirloom tomatoes at the local grange co-op but thats it...no other vegie plants or seeds of the heirloom varietys have been available.

I like the idea of saving your own seeds from year to year... I like the idea of  having the fruits and vegtables growing true from year to year...that being said,  I found two places that sell only heirloom seeds... I am going to give them a try and thought someone else might be interested in doing the same...I have added the links to my  link section...I have no affiliation with either one of these places  other then I like what they stand for... and if nothing else it was fun to read the  little blurbs that went with the seeds.. where the seeds originated from, how they came to be named what they were....there is one called lazy wifes bean, or something like that.. anyway it was named so because it was one of the first stringless string beans..

I talked it over with DH this morning and I think we are going to give growing potatoes a try.. we have a very heavy clay soil, so my thought is to try the trench and straw idea and see how that goes...

Its so nice and quiet here right now.. DD is at work and DH decided he needed to go fishing,  the canaries have been gifting me with their songs on and off all morning... Jesse (the lab) has been laying in the sun beam coming thru the window... we had 6 does (deer) down behind our house a few mintues ago.. I do enjoy watching them so.  The only thing I have been watching with some concern is one of my does is getting awfully interested in the buck next door...I sure dont need another doe jumping the fence  lol... maybe I should go lock her up in the corral.   Im not sure how long  the neighbor is going to keep him in that field.. He has never been in there before...I know its not her problem  but sure wish she would put him back where she had him

Mmm that sun beam is looking inviting.. Jesse may just have to share it  have a wonderful day....

Thanks for the seed links! I remember hearing about these sites before, but had forgotten about it. Sounds interesting.

We grew our own potatoes last year and are still eating them. They are going to be on my garden list from now on. Let us know how the straw thing works out.

Trina,
Just wanted to let you know the link to the Heirloom Seeds doesn't work...you accidentally put .come instead of .com
Seed Savers worked fine.

I typed it in my browser and brought it up. Just thought you'd want to know so you could fix it. By the way...great sites!

Sarah

Thanks!!
