Christmas Traditions that I remember as a kid.. and some current ones

Dad always made a batch of fudge on Christmas eve.. he had a special pan that he always used, and the "recipe" out of the old home searchlight cookbook.

Mom always made us a pair of Christmas PJ's  or nighties that we got to open on Christmas eve.

I always buy a box or two of candy canes for the tree, just so the kids can eat them off of it.. I dont expect them to leave them on the tree... there are 6 left this year  lol  my SS and his friend I think are the ones snackig on them  lol

our family likes to go up in the hills to get our tree, weather permitting... when the whole family goes we have a  tailgate chili feed.. they are alot of fun...

we get together every christmas eve, the whole family...  One year when Grandma mom was still alive,  she had my sister make Everyone tie dyed T shirts.... wow were we a bright bunch that year...

Vicki, do you remember any others?

Traditions

I remember not being able to leave our rooms in the morning until the parents were up. We would pound on the walls or the ceiling attempting to wake them depending on what room we were in. This also worked against you too dear sis. When you were a teen we were not allowed to open any presents until you were up. And to this excited little girl it seemed like they let you sleep in forever. I remember trying to be loud in order to get you up.

Mom usually made some candy... there was that one she called the Christmas candy which was whlte with nuts and cherries in it. Then there was her carmel phase.

Every Christmas eve they would turn on the news and about 11:00 they would be announcing that SAnta had been seen coming our way so all little kids needed to be in bed. I remember how exciting and magical that was. How much harder it was to go to sleep after that as well.

I think my favorite tradition was the Christmas tree hunt. Although we haven't done it for awhile. The last one was a little scary with the boys wanting to go higher and higher in the snow trying to test out their 4x4's. Maybe next year everyone will be recovered enough to try it again.

Our tradition of the adult exchange is a lot of fun and a lot less expense and low pressure to find something for everyone. It is nice in our family how presents hold a back seat to the gathering. I remember years I only could afford gifts costing a couple bucks and no one cared. As long as you were there for the 'command appearance' no one cared what you brought.

Moms stockings were always magical and the stocking is still my favorite gift. Since you were the oldest you were at the top of the stairs and then Mike, then Dave and then me, all the way at the bottom. Until Amber came and then I moved up a peg and she got my spot. :-)

All this thinking makes me think I need to go make some fudge. You know I have one of those pans like dads too. I don't remember who but someone found it at a garage sale and got if for me. Was it youi?

We have a wonderful family sisser! We are so lucky! I love you!
