Christmas stockings- what is your tradition?

07:05, 2006-Dec-12 .. 2 comments .. Link

I love doing the Christmas stockings... probably my favorite part of the whole gift thing.. must be, my kids are 23 and 19 and I still do it  lol...  I always put a candy cane in them, but not an orange since DD has a thing about fruit  lol  sometimes I fill the toe with chocolate kisses.

What I usually do is pick out a theme and work around that... this year my daughter is into cross stitch.. I will be picking up some smaller type scissors, some needles, maybe some floss I know she needs... I will also be adding a flashlight for her car, because she needs one..a book I got for her...oh and this really cute little key chain that is supposed to help you make a choice about what to do as a joke, I think at times she still enie meanie miney moes her decisions. hehehe

One year DD's was cooking oriented... wooden spoons, measureing cups, spoons and so on..she was in cooking 4-H

DS will be more theme oriented... stuff for a car.. ice scraper, battery post cleaner, maybe plug wires...that type of thing...

I have alot of fun planning, or thinking about them would be a better word  lol...

When I was a kid, the stockings my mom put together almost seemed magical, when we would first see them, and she always way over bought so they just kind of overflowed onto the floor...but quite often hers were very practical as well...they were one of my favorite times, because we could look, and ohh and ahh at our leisure. Our Santa gift was not wrapped either..so we could check it out as well .after breakfast we opened the rest of the gifts.

Hi Trina, we too hand stocking, I even have a tiny one for my hedgehog... LOL
We put coloring books, crayons, new tooth brush and a few handfuls of candy in our kids stockings...

Another tradition we have is that everyone gets a new pair of pajamas on Christmas eve...
Have a great day my friend...

The theme idea is wonderful! My daughters that are not married I still do a stocking and I was thinking about quitting after this year because I was having a hard time figuring out what I would put in them! Now I have some ideas - thank you! Of course, always the orange at the bottom, candy cane and that book of life savers (know the one?), various candy. Maybe I'll do a "soup" theme since they are both in college.
