Everybody has a story

spinning question

06:50, 2006-Oct-8 .. 2 comments .. Link

I have been looking at spinning wheels... I am curious about the double and single petal wheels and what the difference in them is?   What is a good fiber to start spinning with?

I am going to a  demonstration today at a local store.. they cover spinning, weaving, knitting. and so on... I am hoping to get to try my hand at spinning...  I would really love to be able to pick out a project, spin the fiber, weave the fabric, and make the project...  DH is thinking  OH no not a new hobby

Not much going on around here right now... I will be working at the resource room all this next week...   I got a pretty nice compliment on friday, one of my co workers said they are trying to figure out a way to keep me   Right now I am subbing...

Have a wonderful day....

Hello Trina, I would have to say that wool would be a good starting point... Naturally derived materials such as wool, cotton, hemp, flax and silk are considered natural (or traditional) fibers, as opposed to man-made fibers such as polyester, rayon and nylon...

Ah, the spinning bug has bitten you! How wonderful!

Single petal vs. double petal, the only difference between them is how much you like it. I have spun on both and prefer the single petal. Its just more comfortable to me. I suggest you sit down at as many different wheels as you can before you buy one and find out which "feels" best to YOU. Contact a local spinning guild and see if you can sit in on one of their spinning sessions to get a chance to learn and spin.

Start with wool, you cant go wrong with it. Its the most widely availiable fiber and there are many different types of wool to keep your interest up. Trust me, each one feels different to spin.

Drop me a line if you have more questions, I'll be happy to answer you!
