Jessie and the mouse trap

I have a black lab Jessie that is pretty much ruled by her belly and always has been.. the other night we noticed we are having an invasion of mice...I dont like to poison them so I decided to set out traps around the living room.. I very carefully covered each trap knowing well, that to jessie even a pea size bit of peanut butter  would be worth a lick or two.... well the inevitable happend she sniffed out the trap pushed the box aside and SNAP she was got. now every time she walks past that spot she very warily looks over her shoulder.. I suppose the other traps are safe now  :> 

The traps do not seem to be catching the mice though, just the dog, I guess they are to small or something... any ideas on how to solve this problem... I have dogs so I am leary of using poison, that and I dont like the idea of them suffering as they die.. I wish there was something that would just herd them back out of the house...any thoughts would be appreciated
