Card weaving (also known as tablet weaving)

There are 37 cards each card has 4 ends thru it, the cards can be bought, or made as in this case, they used to make them out of wood. Its my understanding this is a very old form of weaving and usually not done on a loom. One end is tied to something solid and the other end to yourself, as you weave you move forward. when weaving the cards are rolled forward or backwards whatever your pattern calls for... the particular one is 8 forward and 8 back, the pin head you see in one of the pictures is how I keep track of which way I am going... now I need some way to keep count because I get sidetracked easily some days.
I seem to have wapred the loom backwards so the back shows up on the front side of the loom. this is the back side
