Hectic Heaven

A restful sunday

After yesterday non of us had much energy, other then going and checking the  Pammy and her babies every couple of hours, I did not accomplish much today,  well I did catch up on some sleep...

Pammy is a new mom and after the little buckling was born pretty much flipped out... she did better with the next two, but is still not really totally accepting the little fella... If the doe is eating then she will let him nurse, otherwise she walks away and doesnt have much to do with him... I am hoping it gets better as time goes on... I really dont have time to bottle feed the little fella.. but I suppose if things go south I will figure out how to work it in....but I'm crossing my fingers things get better or at least she gets a tad more tolerant of him....I think part of the problem is I had her in a pen but not a small enough pen.. and she left him and went in to have the others... so he was outside with DH while the rest was going on... actually I took him in about the time the second one was born..

They are both cute as can be and thankfully they both have ears... Dad was a La mancha with no ears... but I have to say he does throw some very pretty babies... well gotta get ready for a new week tomorrow.. I will take some more pictures soon...

Glad you got caught up on some rest!

The babies are adorable, sorry to hear about the stillbirth. Hope mommy goat gets into the swing of things soon.

Best of luck with your fair entries. The all look wonderful and I cant wait to try your whole wheat potato bread. It sounds divine!

Glad you got some rest!!!

I have an idea. Don't know if it will work or not though.

On our cattle ranch growing up we sometimes had a cow that wouldn't claim a calf (or hers died and we had to "glue" a different calf on, we called it). What we did was put her and the baby in a pen and lock a dog in near them (not WITH them, we didn't want her to kill our dog!).

She naturally wanted to "protect" the baby and claimed it. Only took like one day usually. The dog didn't threaten the baby either. Just a natural predator, so she felt maternal, I guess.

Your dogs and goats are probably friends, so don't know if it would work. Maybe borrow a neighbor's dog?

There's also a product (and I'll be danged if I can think what it's called, anyway, from the feedstore) that my brother uses when he gets a glue-on calf from the auction and it works like a charm.... somehow makes him smell "acceptable" to mama.

I hope something will work. It sure is a lot easier the natural way, so you don't have to milk her, put it in a bottle and feed him. GOOD LUCK....
