Hectic Heaven

Why I homestead…I don’t know that I ever really thought of it as homesteading before… but more the way of life that I was raised in…. My mom and dad always grew a big garden, they raised cows, chickens, turkeys, rabbits, and a handful of us kids.. 5 to be exact… The garden was pretty much dads… mom always canned stuff during the summer. They always had food stored and cooked from scratch… and in general were pretty self-sufficient.

I left this way of life for a few years, I moved to town, shopped for all my food at the grocery store and existed… After a very short time I felt something was missing in my life… and started looking to fill it…I learned to can (using a pressure canner). I moved my young daughter back to the country in 91 when I bought 6.5 acres. Critters started coming along fairly quickly, dogs, chickens, turkeys, cows, And eventually dairy goats.

I started trying things that "they used to do" soapmaking was one of those things… I am just now finally getting the breadmaking down, its taken me a few years.. But its coming along.. This year I am planting almost all Heirloom seeds or plants and plan to save seeds for next year…. So you see I just returned from where I came:> I love the way I feel when living this lifestyle.        Thanks Mom and Dad…
