Hectic Heaven

They way they used to do it...

The way they used to do it, That has always been very interesting to me...and I tried alot of new things because I wanted to try to see how "they used to do it" (thats how I got into making soap.. although I do not leach the water thru the  hard wood ash to make my lye... but that is what brought me to soapmaking)... Keeping a dough sponge from one breadbaking to the next...one  or two sets of clothing because mom wove and sewed them all...making butter, milking a critter to be able to make the butter...making your own candles, doing your own butchering,  raising you own grains and vegtables...

I had a 4-H group for awhile quite a few years ago.. we had a back in time day,  we made dipped candles, soap, jelly, and  worked on braiding for a braided rug...the kids had a ball with it..

I like the simplicity folks seemed to have back in time... not so much stuff...they worked hard...very hard...I think I would have liked to live in that time,   I would have been sorry to miss the technology we have today in some way...

There are a few times thru the summer that I am lucky enough to step back in time a bit.. and at least do things somewhat how it might have been done...and let me tell you when I come home from the rendezvous I am tired...but my spirit is alive...you also realize some of the dangers they faced... like long skirts and open fires... well enough rambling thoughts...  have a good day..

4-H

The back in time day sounds like fun. If you don't mind, I think I'll steal the idea. I've been doing the 4-H thing for about 17 years now. I also like to try doing things like "they" used to. I just finished making some cheese and tried a new cottage cheese recipe today that didn't turn out too well. My husband thinks it's cool that you do muzzle loading. He wants to teach ds to do it. Another thing to add to our list.
