Sourdough starter, everlasing yeast and other trivial musings...

the Sourdough start I used was... 2 cups water 2 cups flour 1 Tbls yeast 2 Tbles sugar Mixed it together, cover with cheesecloth, Stir it down occasionally,and set on the counter for 3 days...Do no use metal containers or untesils. mixed in
1 cup flour 1 cup water let it set for two more days... then its ready to go...
Here is a recipe I found for making Everlasting yeast..Its alot like the sour dough starter but you dont leave it out to sour it... 1qt. warm potato water 1 tsp. salt 2 cups white or whole wheat flour 1/2 yeast cake or 1/2 Tbls dry yeast 2 Tbles sugar or honey. Mix all together and place on the counter to rise until ready to mix for baking.. leave a small amount in the jar for the next baking... to make more add all the above ingredients except the yeast... place in refrigerator. do not use metal untensils. I have to be honest Im not exacting sure how you use this... I will have to expirament with it... I mean like in how much you need, or how much to hold back...
In the old days I beleive they kepts a sponge, probably something like the above from one breadbaking to the next.. .. anyway found that interesting and thought I might give it a try....
We are heading out for the Master Gardeners Plant fair this morning sometime, I cant hardly wait... I am hoping they have, in all those plants, some heirloom tomatoes with my name on them...but we will see...maybe a couple of pepper plants... Tomorrow it is supposed to be nice... so we will be working out in the yard some...I hope.. I am so tired and sore today Im not sure if I will make it out there or not...I have worked at the high school the last couple of nights...and last night they had so many new papers that I had to haul out of there is was unreal...I think they need to seriously consider a recyleing program and shanghi a couple of those big strapping farm boys to do take the news papers out...
