Bean seeds..

I have been pouring over seed catalogues and have decided to grow some beans to dry,.. One have been looking at is called a cranberry bean... I just went to the grist mill to pick up some spices and things.. and saw these beans there... a huge bag for 1.85 or something like that..and if you buy the pkg to plant you pay 2.00 or more for maybe 1/4 cup of seed.. what I am wondering is, is there any reason why I couldnt plant these beans from the grist mill?
