A few days ago, my Dh and I celebrated out anniversary, it has been a pretty nice 3 years...today I was looking at a picture of that day and I got to thinking about the wedding and things that happened leading up to that day....I thought I might share a few thoughts on the subject of frugal weddings... As we had both been married before we decided we wanted something low key and casual. I was all for a weekend at Reno NV. and said so a few times.. but each time I mentioned it any talk of wedding was just shut down...so finally in some frustration I asked him if he still wanted to get married... yes he said he did.. but didnt want to go to Reno... he wanted a regular, get all your friends together type wedding..to me this was beyond stressful, as I dont do well with alot of people being around.. we settled for a few close friends and family and proceeded on...The biggest obsticle was where to have it...as we werent affiliated with any local churches... so we started looking at different buildings... we settled on the local grange... 150$ for the day... had a kitchen and a place to eat.... we went looking for rings.. neither of us wear alot of jewelry and I love black hills gold.. so we found 2 very lovely bands.. about 500 dollars for both... Inviations were next... I found a place that had the invitations you print them yourself. They were like a pencil drawing of two kids holding hands and romping thru some long grass..The saying on the card was.. Today I marry my friend.. the one I live for, dream with, love..... we decided to do the food ourselves... we had a buffet of sorts...we made most of the food ourselves and bought some things.. like rolls and muffins.... we opted for cheesecake instead of the traditional wedding cake... I was able to buy 5 premium cheesecakes thru where I worked for about 60 dollars.. I begged and borrowed 5 cake elevated cake plates to put them on... floweres were bought at safeway and costco...... the tables had a bud vase with 3 tulips in it... and confetting and hershey kisses spred down the middle... I bought a very pretty cream colored dress, and we got DH and suit, that he can use for other occasions... I had lined up the JP to perform the ceramony but he back out about 3 weeks before the wedding... Of of the girls I worked with knew of a Pastor that might be able to help us out... and he was AWESOME... it was a lovely ceramony and I was very happy the way it turned out... our wedding was paid for before we ever said I do and although it was very simple it was very nice...the total cost was around 1500 total...
What prompted me to write this post was a picture... when we were talking to people about doing the ceramony I talked to one man, and I really liked his idea...he said to pick out your favorite picture of the day... and for each the bride and groom to write a letter... about why they were marrying the person and what they loved about them... and to put it in an envelope... to then place these envelopes in the back of this framed picture and when you came to the dark days that happen in most marriages.. you can reflect back on the picture and read the letter you wrote... Now we did not write the letter, but I do have a picture that I refer to when I need to remember why. This picture was taken as we were introduced at husband and wife, and we had turned to face our friends and family... were were holding hands and turned to look at each other... in that picture we were one...connected.. and sometimes when I feel we are not so connect or when I am really really upset with him, I will sit down with this picture and remember that day, and those feelings... and then things dont seem to bad... it calms me greatly.. it must I have yet to throw it at him Leave a Comment { Last Page } { Page 238 of 306 } { Next Page } |
