A Prayer for Fourth of July

In case I don't get a chance to log on any more today or tomorrow I want to share this prayer that I picked up at the Religious Education Congress this past March. It was given out by Our Sunday Visitor. And I think it is appropriate as we celebrate the Fourth of July.

A Prayer For Our Nation

Gracious and loving God, we come to you in humble prayer for the United States of America.

Bless our President. Give him wisdom and strength to serve the American people and lead our country in ways that are pleasing to you.

Bless our Congress. Instill in them knowledge and understanding to enact laws that protect the sanctity of life -- from the unborn to the elderly; and promote the good of all people.

Bless the people of the United States. Make us aware of our responsibility as citizens to uphold the principles of life, liberty, justice, and equality.

Send your Holy Spirit upon our beloved country. Make us people of faith in time of uncertainty. Make us people of hope in times of trouble. Make us people of compassion with those who are less fortunate. Make us people of peace in our homes, our communities, our country, and our world.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior.

Amen.

God bless, and Happy Forth of July to Everyone

Sandra

Fourth of July Plans & Menu

I have been planning our weekend.  Tomorrow we will enjoy a quiet day at home.. just family ( all 12 of us!).  We always enjoy a special meal on America's B-day.. so this year I will be making grilled steaks ( a rare treat) , baked potatoes, homemade baked beans, watermelon & homemade apple pie! It's not the fourth w/ out homemade apple pie!

Sunday our Church is holding an evening meeting and then a potluck meal. I'll be brining watermelon, lemon meringue pies and spinach salad. The girls are making cookies & cupcakes.  We are also going to bring a pinata & water balloons!  It should be a fun evening!

Fourth of July is one of our favorite holidays!  We sure enjoy celebrating and taking time to remember how blessed we are in this land of the brave and home of the free!  I am also thankful for the freedom and perfect law of liberty thru Christ our Lord ! Jesus died so ALL men could be set free!  How grateful  I am for that!  We are no longer under the bondage of the law -- but are free thru the grace and liberty in Christ! Thank you Jesus for your precious blood shed on calvary so all men can be free!

Hope you all enjoy a blessed Holiday!

Gloria

Good Evening, it’s been another long week here and I for one am glad to see the week draw to a close and the holiday to be upon us. We have spent the last few days getting the hay baled, it is done but we only had the two of us my husband and I to do it all. Usually our son in law helps us but his father passed away on Monday night very suddenly and most unexpectedly. He was on 57 years old had a heart attack as he was sitting down to dinner. My daughter and son in law have been busy helping his mother get through the arrangements and all so my husband and I have been taking care of little Noah and trying to support all of them, while trying to beat the rain and get the hay done. They say god never gives us more than we can handle at one time, I guess that is  true but I hope our family has time to catch our breath collectively after this past week before the next thing comes along.

Blessings!
Today is quite the warm one...in fact it's downright hot! First time it's been above 65* since last summer:P Today is 91* with a nice cool breeze from the river. We have been canning up the last of the cherries and decided to take a break and take a dip:) Mmmmm, that water is nice and wonderfully cooling:)
Now, I sit on the front porch in the shade enjoying the breeze that blows across it while sipping some iced suntea. The two dogs are lazing at my feet, tongues hanging out, quietly panting while their eyes slowly drift closed. The cat lays across the railing, her tail flicking now and then to ward off a fly, occasionally lifting one eye open to see what the sound is the in bush off the edge of the porch.
The girls are laying on the grass in front of the porch, each reading a little something and sharing ideas on things to sell at fair this year. They are making their lists, planning and going over supplies. Occassionally swatting at this or that in between giggles:)
Husband had to run a banking errand so he left us in the Ragtop Mustang, top down, sunglasses on and a big smile on his face as he dons his hat and drives away.
The freshly canned cherries, the sound of the lids pinging now and then, drift through the open window by my chair here on the porch. A feeling of contentment and joy wash over me as I feel the hand of our Heavenly Father resting upon my shoulder. Such a blessed feeling:) Thank you Lord for all that You provide. For the family You gave me to share my life with. For the friends You gave me to know I am not alone in my thoughts and lifestyle. For Your Son who did not come to judge us but to save us. Thank You!
  God be with thee, everyone!

Due Date And More...

Dear Friends,

Today was another mile-stone for us.  We had our first OB appointment with the High Risk specialist.  The appointment was 3 hours long and quite eventful.

We started out at the desk where we filled out the usual paperwork and back I went to run to the bathroom stop.  I went into a room on my own as the nurse (Karen) asked for information.  I am 35 now, and not considered a spring chicken anymore, so they asked right away for genetic testing and an Amnio.  I denied the tests and signed papers denying each genetic test.  While I'm sure they have their reasons for them, I find no cause for us to have them.  If God created this little Miracle and has since continued to care for him or her, I am faithfully trusting HE will know best and there is no reason to cause fear and discontentment.  God doesn't create trash and thus, our baby is wanted no matter the outcome.  While we pray our baby is healthy and happy, we also accept it's diversity if he or she has a genetic predisposition.  I find no good in this testing for me and actually put more trust that God knows what He is doing with the miracle He has created as our Great Physician.  Praise Be To God for such a miraculous creation!

My husband was brought in the room shortly after, where we discussed insulin questions and agreed to focus on getting the "pump" for insulin regulation.  We want to keep this baby safe and having regular "good" readings  through pump regulation will help lessen a WHOLE lot of stress.  So I'm doing the paperwork as we speak, will call the company on Monday who will get the ball rolling with our insurance company ((please pray Pomco doesn't give us any problems. The sooner I get on the insulin pump, the better and healthier it is for me AND the baby)).  If all goes well, in a month or two, I will be hospitalized for 2-3 days to place the cathetor and pump inlay.  I'm hospitalized because I'm pregnant and they MUST watch the baby.

After our questions were answered, I asked if they would give me a sonogram to date the baby and make sure our baby was doing well.  We got into the room, and the Dr. couldn't see anything or hear anything.  My heart skipped a beat...but I just kept praying that God would again provide a miracle to see the baby and hear his or her heartbeat so early.

He got up and asked to have a pelvic sonogram done to get a closer look.  While we waited, I had the basic checkup done, breast exam, paps, heart rate, etc.  Then was led to the room with the sono technician.

She too had a hard time seeing the baby and then had me put both hands under my back and lift my bum up.  Sure enough...there was our wee little one with a heart.  The heart monitor was flat and I began to pray again to ask God to help us hear the babys heartbeat.  Please God....Let us hear the babys heartbeat.  Bless us dear Father with Your presence.  Give us confirmation though many have said it's too early.  Sure enough......We heart the heart beating.  Praise God!  129 was the heart rate.  Not only was there a heartbeat, but a GOOD heart rate.  We prayed and God answered.

Shortly after, we found out we are 6w3d and are due February 23, though the Dr. is confident it will be earlier.  Would you believe our Wedding anniversary is February 9th?  What a blessed month in February....when most find winter to be a time of death and spring to be a rebirth, I have found nothing but LIFE in the winter.  God has been VERY good to us and my life is an absolute testimony to His grace, love, protection and mercy.  I do not deserve anything I have, yet I am blessed by His gifts and am content where we ARE.

Again, Praise Be To God.  My Cup Runneth Over!

4th of July Treats

Lots of yummy sounding and festive looking treats at The Crafty Crow today!  Now I'm wondering if I can't sneak in another trip to the grocery store for just a few more things .

Hope your 4th of July is filled with fun and family!  I plan to find a nice cool spot to sit and read for a while, enjoy some fun food with the kiddos,...perhaps I'll take the new neighbors across the road up on their offer of a boat ride...or I'll just let everyone else go and I'll stay home and enjoy a bit of "quietude" .

Well, the decision has been made about our son wanting to live here. The answer is no.
However, we are going to ask him to come here (maybe in a hotel) for a few days to a week to "get his feet wet" and to look for  a job. We will put out the offer for meals and maybe even laundry to wash their clothes for awhile.... and we will even help buy baby things, but they cannot stay here.
We have too much in our lives right now, too much with still raising 2 teenage girls and trying to keep our own lives on an even keel....
And as a few folks have said, "Not allowing him to live here will show IF he has changed like he said he has..."

We'll see....

My parents made it here safe and sound.  We are so happy to have them here.  We went and saw My Sister's Keeper yesterday afternoon.  It was a tear-jerker for sure.

The same old things have been going on around here in the day to day.  The weather has been a little cooler during the morning and early afternoon then warming up mid afternoon.  Here is a picture of our weather station thingy that tells us the indoor/outdoor temp, how to dress, the time, and the humidity.

My daughters are busy baking cookies and boiling homegrown potatoes to make a homemade potatoe salad.

We are going to visit my sister today and have dinner there.  I better get things in order.  Write more later.

DS came home around 8 a.m. - having ridden all night with a couple from CO gong to IN. So good to see him again. The hair will have to go before he starts back to work Monday.

me and helearned a new skill in Africa - sounds pretty good on guitar. We got his room painted about 3 weeks ago - light blue - looks so good - vast improvement.
I need to add a picture of Ang, as she was at church camp since Monday - so good to have her home too and her cat thinks so too!! : )

Grain Mill

Just got a grain mill from Kim over at Manna Milling Moms (Thank you, Kim!).  It's a Wondermill and I am thrilled to have it!  I had a Miracle Grain Mill, but it wouldn't grind the wheat fine enough.  I've got a batch of dough kneading right now.  Hopefully, it will not be a brick!  I'm still learning! :)  I'm using the recipe that I saw over at www.tammysrecipes.com.  It is Amish White Bread, but I used all whole wheat.   Here's the recipe if any of you guys are interested.

Amish White Bread

Yield:  1 loaf

Ingredients:

1 Cup warm water (110-115 degrees F)

1/3 Cup of sugar (I used honey granules)

3/4 t salt

2 T oil

3 Cups of flour (I used whole wheat flour)

1 T dry yeast

I did not use her baking directions since I was going to use a bread machine.  I just followed my bread machine directions (wet ingredients first, then dry ingredients, with yeast on top).

I'll let you all know how it turns out!

Have a great day!

Angel
