Christmas Question? Money?

I have a question about Christmas gifts for family.  My husband has 3 brothers, one has two boys 4th grade and 8th grade.  We asked their dad what they would like for Christmas.  The boys gave us an expensive list.    Is it right for the boys to give us a list that can/will cost more than what we will spend on our own children?  1 wants a $400.00 skate board!   I feel like they the brother , wife and the boys ask more of us because my husband make more money than his brother and is his brothers boss.  One year we bought them a go-cart and they did not even say thank you to me.  Our girls ask for a book or a music cd.    Am I wrong?   I feel like they could give us a list from lowest price to highest price, not just give us the highest price.

in my opinion.
I think I would think 'lesson learned' and next year, I would not ask for, nor accept a list of 'wants' - just say you have decided to buy everyone a good old fashioned surprise, and they are very welcome to do the same,
I can't think that children of that age are not aware that they are asking for expensive gifts, and I would suspect the parents of 'egging them on', you know, 'oh uncle such and such has plenty of money, ask for a really big gift' - which I think is really shocking.
Sorry to sound so prim but I do not believe they are doing those children any favours.

This year I have decided for all my nieces, cousins, and my younger brother and sister that they will each recieve 2 gifts, one is a new pair of pj's and the other a gift of 10 dollars or less, like a cd, a book, or a small toy, and that's it. It's always been a tradition for me to get my brother and sister new pjs and a new little something and they are always so excited. I also decided this year, that my family would learn the lesson that Christmas is not about a ton of gifts. My kids are going to be awfully surprised when they only see one present from "santa" under the tree, and they'll also only be getting 2 presents from us and a game for all of them, in addition to a new outfit and pj's. Ok, enough rambling from me. I pray you are able to figure out how to handle this.
