Me a Farm Girl?

{ 02:32, 2007-Sep-25 } { 13 comments } { Link }

Oh boy, today I found out I am really a farm girl. I check my mail and get excited that there is the new nasco farm and ranch catalog came!  No wonder I drive my parents nuts.

My past:

I was brought up a well spoiled girl(but not snooty though, ok a bit) around musicians, movie stars, a President, and others. I did not have to really clean , never cooked, no yard work.  If I wanted something washed I had  my mom do it, or the maids. Always had animals though, just not near as many.

Sad:

When I moved out on my own at 16 yrs old (my parents gave me a house) I had no clue on how to cook , clean , work the appliances, wash clothes, hello where was mom or the maid( doesn't the maid come with me). I had to learn how to do that stuff. Always had animals again not as many.

Hubby:

I feel bad for my hubby, he is the one who taught me how to cook for our family. Hubbies grandma taught me more like canning and stuff.

Middle:

After learning how to do stuff I learned I love it.  I love cooking, sewing, gardening, canning. I love being a house wife!  I started to feel like I was born 100 yrs tooo late. Started collecting more animals.

Now:

I just love my life.  I can build a barn, take down build corrals, build chicken pens, till the land , repair my home (sometimes better than hubby :) ) raise pig and steers for food at my request.  I love to garden and then can what I grew.  I can paint , lay wood floors, work on our trucks.  I cook good , I can good ( even won 1st places at our local fair), I sew OK to good,  I home school and love it.  ( I was brought up kids go to school mom go to hot springs to tan, shopping , hair , nails, lunch while kids are in school).   I will do what ever it takes for an animals to survive.   I have had 4 orphans baby goats raised inside my house ( they wore diapers)  I have raised  5 orphaned pigs in my house (again more diapers).

here is one:

I now see:

I see why I drive my parents nuts.   I just wish they could see that I am very happy and love my life.  I am bringing up our girls different than how I was brought up (except for the famous people that is just a part of our lives from my father, but they have been brought up the same as me, they just see them as people who share their talent with others).   I was meant to live this life I am know living.   My parents (mom and step dad who is more a real dad than step) feel that it is wrong teaching the girls how to run a house, do chores and stuff, they kinda feel like it is child abuse.   I tell them I will not have the girls moving out when they GET married not knowing how to do anything like me,  I want them to be prepared to be the wife God calls them to be.

So yes I get excited when I get farm and ranch catalog and pattern catalog's and I love to read on how to be a better house wife from older books and magazines, and to be a better helpmet, and we love to learn as much as we can about Gods critters.

So me now:

I love the simple life, I love my family, I love my hubby , I love being a grandma, I love the life God has given me. What a blessing , Thank you Lord for changing me. I know I am still a work in progress.

God Bless all, mj

Oh my goodness I can relate to some of that! My mom raised me to be...well, the only word I can think of to do it justice it hauty. And I am so far left of that it isn't even funny! She is passed away now, but once she realized what type of woman I was turning out to be, she just didn't know what to do with me! (Of course, there wasn't anything she could do. I was a grown, married woman. Drove her nuts...) I am not at all the person that my parents wanted me to be ~ here I am planning our homestead, raising my kids to be frugal and we are all so country we really do border on redneck and are rather proud of it. :-) Mom and dad just didn't know what to think.

Your are a farm girl! Your children are very blessed to have a mother teach them the 'important' things in life, these are things our grandparents had to know! I love the old ways also!
I'm adding you as a friend.

Thanks for stopping by me place......

Incase you forget, I am the one getting up at 5:30 am when you say that you are going to bed, lol.

I loved reading your post. My life sounds exactly like yours except about the famous people and my parents buying me a house. They bought me everything else and I never moved out until I got married and my husband already had a house.

It is sort of funny to look back at it all and see the changes in us but also very sad. I am thankful for the Lord changing my heart and putting in me the desire to be a good wife, mother and home-maker. I am now enjoying teaching my 3 daughters the same thing.

Oh yea,, my husband had to teach me how to cook also, I was kicked out of Home Ec class in high school, but now that is a totally different story.

Glad to meet you and please stop by my place again.

Pat

Well, goodness, 150 animals does not sound like a small farm!

I can totally relate to feeling like I was born 100yrs. too late, haha. I feel the same way!

I was raised a city girl too, although we weren't rich, so my life growing up was a little different.

It's so wonderful to see that you are so happy and contented with your life! God bless you!

And thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. :)

~Peace,
Alie

interesting life you have had - even though you used to study with so much music like my son does now - maybe he will turn out to be the homesteader type - it doesn't seem so now, but who knows?! Right now he is planning to work full time so he can go to YWAM missions school - I'm happy he wants to serve the Lord!!! Jill

Thank yu
