Christmas Time Part 2 Jesus The Reason For The Season

It is that time of year again. Time to share Jesus birthday. I love Christmas , but I have seen the not so loving side of it. People in a rush , no time to be kind, rush , rush.  People are forgetting what Christmas is Love.

We are given a chance everyday to be kind or help one another, do we?

Christmas is about Jesus and his love. It is not about Santa, or who buys the most wins ( and goes broke). We need to find ways to share with each other, when we do this are children are are watching and learning. I would like to share

some ways to teach our children the reason for the season. You can share these with the family members also.

Jesus the reason for the season.

1. Baking- have a baking day with your children. Make breads, cookies, cakes to share with neighbors, elderly people in homes , you church family, etc..

Let your little ones help too. Take the time to take pictures of the items being cooked and of the mess your kitchen will be to share later as your child gets older, or pictures to share with you grandchild of mommy or daddy helping to make items to share. The mess will be worth it, your children will feel good about helping to serve others.

2. Teach your child a craft, a wreath for a grandparents door, ornaments for Christmas tree , etc.. doing this will teach a child that the time and work they put into making something out of love is much better than a bought gift.

3. A way to share a close family time can be to watch old home movies of past Christmas. Let each family member tell about their favorite part that day.

No home movies? Take out old pictures and have each person tell what they love about that day.

4. Have your family get involved with serving others, you can do Christmas boxes to send around the word for other children. Your family can adopt an orphan or more at Christmas. The orphanage can give you a list of children and what each child would like. Your child can also make an item for the orphans, my family and I have a blast shopping for the children. It is very humbling to see that most of the children only ask for the basic items to get by.

5. You family can do a can drive to help a homeless shelter or your family can serve at a shelter. Make blankets to hand out.

6. Your family can go visit elderly people in homes. Some do have families, but they do not always see them that much. Have your child take in pictures of his life to share with them and watch the sparkle in their eyes. Go visit people in the hospital who are ill with no visitors read the bible to them share your love, you know the love Jesus gave to you!

8.Do you have an elderly neighbor who has a pet? your children can help with the animals care, walking , feeding, picking up the mess they make, anything to help them out. What about a neighbor who is hurt or alone? How can you help.

9. Your families church. What does it need done? the flower bed need weeded?

Take your church worker lunch to let them know you care. Do you have older children? Can they babysit to help a single mom run to the store or to give mom a break for an hour? Can you serve one Sunday in the infant room at church to give some one a break?

10. Start a tradition , keep it, watch your children grown  and share it, then one day your children are teaching the family tradition to your grandchildren.

Let the tradition be service to others and watch it grow.

11. This is just a start of ideas ask your friends, family what their traditions are

and go, Make you own. Emilie Barnes write nice books on traditions also.

Please remember "Jesus is the reason for the season" , but the season is all

year long.  Not just at Christmas time.

If you teach your children service, and show them how you serve ( no complaining) it is more than your words it is your life.
