Lessons from David

{ 11:49, Tuesday, May 5, 2009 } { Posted in Holy Thoughts for Holy Living } { 0 comments } { Link }
I Chronicles 21-23
  1. David was determined to have his own way.  He was provoked by Satan and yielded to the temptation.    Remember:  I Corinthians 10:13 - God will always make a way to escape.  There is no temptation so big that I cannot bear it!
  2. David was encouraged by Joab not to number the people.  He was told he would be a "cause of trespass to Israel"  Ch. 21:9
  3. Nevertheless he chose to sin.  The King's Word prevailed.  Remember:  God is the almighty King and His Word should always prevail.  If David had allowed God, the King, to let His Word prevail, he would have avoided God's judgment. Ch. 21:4
  4. God was displeased with David's sin and all Israel suffered because of it.  Remember:  my sin affects many more than just myself!  Ch. 21:7
  5. David did repent.  He admitted his sin and realized his foolishness.  but he still had to suffer the consequences. Ch. 21:9-10 Praise the Lord, He is faithful and just to forgive and to cleanse us from all iniquity.  But that does not mean I will never suffer the consequences of my sin.
  6. David was allowed to choose his punishment.  Life is full of choices and decisions.  Even here he needed wisdom.  Remember:  I can give my children a choice in punishment, but it should be severe enough to make them realize, admit their sin, and not want to do it again.
  7. David realized it would be better to fall into the hands of God and not the hands of man.  Ch. 21:3 *Hebrews 10:31  It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. *Lamentations 3:22  It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. Praise the Lord for this!
  8. God was merciful.  He stayed His hand. ch. 21:15
  9. David realized God's holiness and mercy and fell on his face.  He realized it was his sin that caused the judgment.  Ch. 21:17  Remember:  Ask God to search my heart and see if there be any wicked way in me.  Confess my sin, repent, and worship.  Set up an altar unto the Lord!
  10. Ornan was willing to give all for the Lord's work. Ch. 21:23  What an example for myself!
  11. David was willling to pay the cost for the Lord's Work.  Ch. 21:24  What another great example for myself.  I should be willing to do both.
  12. David once again feared the Lord.  Ch. 21:30   Proverbs 9:10  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

“But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.” (2Co 10:17)“But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I [am] the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these [things] I delight, saith the LORD.” (Jer 9:24)

15 ways God is my deliverer!

David had many enemies, but he continually praises God for being his deliverer.

We also have many enemies - enemies of the soul who would seek to destroy us, the enemy of the flesh which always wars against our new nature, the enemy of self which always wants its own way.  Praise God, He can and will be our continued deliverer!

According to 2 Samuel, chapter 22 God is:

  1. my rock
  2. my fortress
  3. my deliverer
  4. my shield
  5. the horn of my salvation
  6. my high tower
  7. my refuge
  8. my Savior
  9. my stay
  10. my rewarder
  11. my lamp
  12. my strength and power
  13. my guide
  14. my avenger
  15. the tower of Salvation

"I WILL CALL UPON THE LORD  WHO IS WORTHY TO BE PRAISED!" V4

"AS FOR GOD HIS WAY IS PERFECT!" V31

"I WILL GIVE THANKS UNTO THEE, O LORD...I WILL SING PRAISES IN THY NAME!" V50

Some More Thoughts

Humility:  Seeing who you are in light of who God is.  That should humble any of us.

***************************

Think about this:  The GREATEST of ANYTHING X NO LOVE = NOTHING!

1 Corinthians 13:1-3  Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

God is the Final Authority

{ 10:53, Monday, March 30, 2009 } { Posted in Holy Thoughts for Holy Living } { 0 comments } { Link }

  • As God's creatures, we have no right to question His authority whether we are saved or lost! Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? (Romans 9:20)

  •  God is the ultimate authority! Hath not the potter power over the clay (Romans 9:21)

God is Holy and Righteous and because of this He demands holiness and righteousness.  Sin will be judged!  But at the same time God is loving and therefore is longsuffering and continually holds back on his judgment and righteousness because He see the lost condition of man and His love says, I will wait longer because this soul need to be saved.  (Romans 9:22-24  What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:  And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,  Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?)

  • God knows when man will say no to Him for the last time.  It is a dangerous thing to say no to God whether you are saved or lost!

  • I'm so thankful He called the gentiles as well as the Jews!  As one of His vessels he wants to use me!  What a tremendous thought!
