I'm feeling a little "Eyorish" (sp.??) today. The vet called to say
that the CAE test results for my Christmas goat were positive. I feel
bad for Doug, he was so excited to get him for me! He was trying to
bless me, and he did. I also feel bad for the goat! CAE is basically
like mad cow disease for goats. I feel bad for me, too! My first buck
tested positive, my second's "goodies" didn't drop all the way, and now
this, the third, is also CAE positive.
I'm pretty
discouraged about this. A good buck is half your herd. I keep getting
messed up goats! The last two bucks were pretty spendy, with really
good blood lines, too.
Well, back to the drawing board. I have a
Longman buck promised to me for this spring, so I'll thank the Lord for
that and have my herd all tested again.
A bit of advice for
you present and future goatie people- isolate any new goat until you
have test results back! You never know. Chances are slim that this
goat, having been here less than a week will pass this on to my goats,
but...I don't like to take any chances. These goats aren't just my
hobby, they are also my little friends and I take their care seriously.
So...I'll be sad tonight, but tomorrow is a new day...indeed (almost)...a New Year!
Happy New Year and spend it getting to know The King better!
Jesus is LORD !
