Goatie tears~

I'm feeling a little "Eyorish" (sp.??) today. The vet called to say that the CAE test results for my Christmas goat were positive. I feel bad for Doug, he was so excited to get him for me! He was trying to bless me, and he did. I also feel bad for the goat! CAE is basically like mad cow disease for goats. I feel bad for me, too! My first buck tested positive, my second's "goodies" didn't drop all the way, and now this, the third, is also CAE positive.

I'm pretty discouraged about this. A good buck is half your herd. I keep getting messed up goats! The last two bucks were pretty spendy, with really good blood lines, too.
Well, back to the drawing board. I have a Longman buck promised to me for this spring, so I'll thank the Lord for that and have my herd all tested again.

A bit of advice for you present and future goatie people- isolate any new goat until you have test results back! You never know. Chances are slim that this goat, having been here less than a week will pass this on to my goats, but...I don't like to take any chances. These goats aren't just my hobby, they are also my little friends and I take their care seriously.

So...I'll be sad tonight, but tomorrow is a new day...indeed (almost)...a New Year!
Happy New Year and spend it getting to know The King better!
Jesus is LORD !

You seem to be having a really, really hard time with the bucks. And I feel partly responsible. It is too bad that there aren't any good bucks nearby that you could use for stud. I feel bad for Doug too, all that stink and it turned out to be a bum goat. I know it is hard to remember sometimes, but God is going to bring into your life what you need, not what you want. I guess you didn't need a good buck right now for some reason? He will bring the right one to you when you need it.

Any chance that AI might be a temp. option until you can get a good buck?

Aww...thanks Jenn. The first one wasn't your fault- I hadn't the sense to test back then! I do now. You are right- for some reason that buck isn't what I need right now, 'cause I sure did pray about him! that's the Lord's answer, so I better accept it. We'll see what else He's got planned. I do take that serious too, because there is a promise about those who are diligent with their flocks and herds in Pr. 27- He Said It! I Believe It! That Settles It!
Thank the Lord for provision- I have two good friends here with Boer bucks I can use. Guess I'll cross breed and try an experiment with a dual purpose goat. :)

I have to admit I have a hard time with the thought of artificial insemination. I like to do things the old fashioned way, and let's face it, if you only got to go on your "honeymoon" once a year, wouldn't you want your "husband" there?!! Goats need lovin' too!
he he.

2005-Dec-30 - SO SORRY:(

What sad news and Doug was so proud of himself. You know, I read that you can get a free cae test done before you purchase a goat.

Here's a shot in the dark, but what if you were to give it something (natural) for arthritis? This looked interesting: http://www.jointpainremedy.com/.

Hey, I don't know much about cae, just trying to help:)

I'm so sorry about your buck. It's so hard when our animals test positive for things. The very first goat I ever got was positive for CAE. I was devastated. These things are never easy. I am also sorry about your chickens..those hawks are hard on homestead poultry! We've had our fair share. My fowl are free range, and luckily my guineas let me know if there is a predator nearby. (UPS and visitors count as predators...).

Sending you hugs today,
Lisa

Sorry to hear about the news with your new buck - I just hate that.
Seems like many New Year's are beginning with heavy hearts....last night, our New Year's eve, "something" got into our chicken house and massacred about half of our flock of 30 precious heirlooms. It was awful.
This morning we have been able to account for about 18 that managed to survive the attack. So it is very hard for me to look at the chicken photo at the top of my homeschoolblogger blog because I see my babies that are no longer w/us - in the blink of an eye.

Hope things will improve with your goat futures ~ we are looking to "regroup" and look ahead ourselves.
